COMMEMORATING the 100th Anniversary of the Garden
Club of Yorktown
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those organizations of high purpose and worthy
accomplishment whose endeavors have faithfully served the welfare of the
citizens of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Garden Club of Yorktown, New
York, to be celebrated in 2026; and
WHEREAS, The Garden Club of Yorktown (GCY), founded in 1926, is
celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2026 after a century of service to
the Town of Yorktown and its residents; and
WHEREAS, For 100 years, members of the Garden Club of Yorktown have
worked to beautify public spaces, foster horticultural knowledge,
promote the use of native plants, and contribute significantly to
community enrichment; and
WHEREAS, The Garden Club of Yorktown has undertaken numerous
projects to enhance local parks and gardens, including ongoing efforts
to develop a native-plant demonstration garden at the Veteran Memorials
Circle, which educates the public about native species and supports
pollinators while honoring veterans; and
WHEREAS, The Garden Club of Yorktown's dedication to conservation,
environmental stewardship, and public education reflects its commitment
to preserving natural beauty and promoting sustainable gardening
practices for future generations; and
WHEREAS, Through annual events such as plant sales, community garden
demonstrations, educational programs, and collaborations with local
organizations, the Garden Club of Yorktown has strengthened community
ties and inspired residents of all ages to engage in civic and
environmental activities; and
WHEREAS, The Town of Yorktown and its residents join in honoring
this milestone and recognizing the profound impact the Garden Club of
Yorktown has had on the cultural, environmental, and aesthetic landscape
of the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Garden Club of Yorktown, and
extend its heartfelt congratulations to the club's members, past and
present, for a century of distinguished service in horticulture,
conservation, and community engagement; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Garden Club of Yorktown as a symbol of the esteem in
which it is held by the people of the State of New York.
