RECOGNIZING February 11, 2026, as Walk for Peace
Day in the State of New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor observances that promote peace, compassion, and understanding
among people of all backgrounds; and

WHEREAS, The Walk for Peace is an international initiative led by
Buddhist monks and peace advocates, dedicated to advancing nonviolence,
mindfulness, and reconciliation through contemplative walking and public
engagement; and

WHEREAS, On February 11, 2026, individuals and communities around
the world will observe Walk for Peace Day, reflecting upon the shared
responsibility to cultivate peace within oneself and throughout society;
and

WHEREAS, This international observance promotes peace, compassion,
and nonviolent action-values strongly reflected in New York's diverse
communities and its historic role as a global center for diplomacy; and

WHEREAS, New Yorkers from diverse communities participate in and
support the Walk for Peace by engaging in local observances, educational
programming, and interfaith efforts that advance peace and nonviolence;
and

WHEREAS, New York State is home to a rich and diverse network of
Buddhist monasteries, meditation centers, interfaith organizations, and
peace-focused institutions that actively promote the principles embodied
by the Walk for Peace; and

WHEREAS, As the home of the United Nations Headquarters, New York
holds a unique and historic role as a global center for diplomacy,
dialogue, and the advancement of international peace; and

WHEREAS, Recognizing Walk for Peace Day in New York State affirms
the State's enduring commitment to fostering harmony, mutual respect,
and peaceful coexistence both locally and globally; now, therefore, be
it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize February 11, 2026, as Walk for Peace Day in the State of New
York; and be it further

RESOLVED, That this day serve as an opportunity for New Yorkers to
reflect upon the importance of peace, compassion, and nonviolent action,
and to engage in activities that promote understanding and unity within
their communities and beyond.
