LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Kathleen Priolo Zammit upon the occasion
of being inducted into the Bishop Kearney High School Hall of Fame

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
who have inspired and brought pride to our majestic Empire State with
their strong contributions to the community and model citizenship; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Kathleen Priolo Zammit upon the occasion of being inducted into the
Bishop Kearney High School Hall of Fame to be celebrated at its Hall of
Fame Dinner Dance on Friday, March 6, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Born in Brooklyn, New York, as the middle daughter of Pasq-
uale and Josephine Priolo, Kathleen attended St. Agatha's Elementary
School, and graduated from Bishop Kearney High School in 1966; and
WHEREAS, She went on to receive a scholarship to attend Fordham
University's School of Education, where she graduated in 1970 with a
Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and a minor in Secondary Education; it
was while she was at Fordham that Kathleen met her husband, Victor
Zammit; and
WHEREAS, In 1970, Kathleen Zammit began her teaching career at Fort
Hamilton High School in Brooklyn, New York; four years later, she and
her husband made their home in Monroe, New York, and she continued her
teaching career at Warwick High School in Orange County, New York, prior
to joining the faculty of Cornwall Central High School; and
WHEREAS, Today, Kathleen Zammit is a mathematics teacher at Cornwall
Central High School in Orange County, New York; her goal is to positive-
ly influence her students as they endeavor to pursue careers in second-
ary math education and engineering; and
WHEREAS, In her zeal to pursue the art of problem solving and to
cultivate her students' diverse mathematical interests, Kathleen Zammit
is her school's team co-advisor of the Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan,
Orange (DUSO) Math League; and
WHEREAS, Kathleen Zammit is also Cornwall's coordinator of the Mandel-
brot Math Competition, a regional competition that attracts the best and
brightest high school mathematics students in the country; and
WHEREAS, Kathleen Zammit has been instrumental in initiating Engineer-
ing Day at Cornwall Central High School; in conjunction with Tectonic
Engineering, a civil engineering firm in Orange County, New York, Engi-
neering Day will make experiential engineering labs available to the
students at Cornwall High School; and
WHEREAS, In 1972, Kathleen went on to receive a grant from the
National Science Foundation to obtain her Master's degree from New York
University's Courante Institute of Mathematical Sciences; and
WHEREAS, She is a member of New York State United Teachers, National
Education Association and Cornwall Central Teacher's Association; Kath-
leen also belongs to the Cornwall Central High School's Faculty Council
for the National Honor Society; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Victor, and their
son, Michael and his wife, Elizabeth, as well as their godson, Joseph
Freyer, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice
in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Kathleen Priolo Zammit upon the occasion of being inducted into
the Bishop Kearney High School Hall of Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Kathleen Priolo Zammit.
