LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Caryl Bank upon the occasion of her
retirement from The Hagedorn Little Village School after 40 years of
dedicated service

WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr.
Caryl Bank upon the occasion of her retirement from The Hagedorn Little
Village School after 40 years of dedicated service; and
WHEREAS, In 1969, Dr. Caryl Bank co-founded The Hagedorn Little
Village School with Dr. Barbara Feingold at a time when there were
limited facilities in Nassau County for the education of preschoolers
with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, Under the dedicated leadership of Dr. Caryl Bank, The Hage-
dorn Little Village School has grown over the last 40 years from caring
for three children in a "one room school house," to serving hundreds of
children in its state-of-the-art facility in Seaford, New York; and
WHEREAS, Inducted into the Long Island Volunteer Hall of Fame in 2002,
Dr. Caryl Bank and Dr. Barbara Feingold have presented at professional
conferences worldwide; the pair also published a book, DEVELOPMENTAL
DISABILITIES OF EARLY CHILDHOOD, and produced a film, "The Best in Every
Child," which chronicled the lives of a typically developing child and
his twin who has Down Syndrome; and
WHEREAS, A Diplomate of the New York State Society of Clinical Social
Work Psychotherapists, Dr. Caryl Bank is New York State certified in
Education and Clinical Social Work, as well as in Administration and
Supervision; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Caryl Bank received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychol-
ogy from Boston University, a Masters degree in Special Education from
City College of New York, a Master's degree in Social Work from Adelphi
University and a Doctorate in Clinical Social Work from New York Univer-
sity; and
WHEREAS, Sincerely loved and greatly respected by all those with whom
she worked, Dr. Caryl Bank served with intelligence and caring dedi-
cation, continuously striving to effectively fulfill the duties of her
position; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Caryl Bank upon the occasion of her retirement from The Hage-
dorn Little Village School after 40 years of dedicated service and to
wish her continued success in all of her future endeavors; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Caryl Bank.
