LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Deborah Gregory, Assistant Super-
intendent of Schools for Curriculum and Human Resources, Brewster
Central School District, upon the occasion of her retirement
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals whose exemplary careers, accomplish-
ments, and purposeful lives of service to their community and their
profession have significantly enhanced the quality of education in the
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of its gratitude and as an expression of its
great respect and high regard, it is the intent of this Legislative Body
to pay tribute to Dr. Deborah Gregory, Assistant Superintendent of
Schools for Curriculum and Human Resources of the Brewster Central
School District, upon the occasion of her retirement; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Gregory's distinguished career as an educator and educa-
tional administrator spans 31 years devoted to the students, teachers,
staff and community of the Brewster Central School District; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Gregory began her distinguished career with the district
serving, for nine years, as the Music Department Liaison and as a Music
Teacher at Brewster High School, after which she was the High School's
Assistant Principal for seven years; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Gregory then ably served as Principal of Henry H. Wells
Middle School for five years before returning to Brewster High School as
its Principal; during her two years as Principal, Advanced Placement
Programs were developed at the High School and the offering of college
courses at the school was also initiated; and
WHEREAS, Eight years ago, Dr. Gregory was named the Brewster Central
School District's Assistant Superintendent of Schools for Curriculum and
Human Resources; and
WHEREAS, She brought to this important position her extensive and
varied experience, her familiarity with the district, and her enduring
commitment to quality education and to the children and families of the
Brewster community; and
WHEREAS, The many accomplishments of which Dr. Gregory may be justly
proud as Assistant Superintendent include the development of new curric-
ulums throughout the district as well as the enhancement and improvement
of the district's teacher training programs; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Gregory has been a true leader of the Brewster Central
School District; she is a caring, compassionate and committed educator
who has made a positive difference in the lives of her colleagues and of
thousands of youth in the district and has justly earned the admiration,
esteem and affection of students, faculty and staff, parents, and the
community alike; and
WHEREAS, In completing her service as an educator, administrator and
Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Gregory leaves behind more than mere
bricks and mortar; she leaves a legacy of quality education and communi-
ty spirit to the residents of the Brewster Central School District, to
future generations of its students, and to her colleagues, many of whom
will gather at Cafe on the Green on Thursday, May 21, 2009 to honor her
and to wish her well; and
WHEREAS, Through her many accomplishments and successes, Dr. Gregory
has brought enduring honor to the Brewster Central School District and
to New York State's system of public education; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Dr. Deborah Gregory upon the occasion of her retirement as Brew-
ster Central School District's Assistant Superintendent of Schools for
Curriculum and Human Resources after 31 years of distinguished service
to the district; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Deborah Gregory, with the appreciation and best wishes of
this Legislative Body.
