LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Bedford Police Department upon the
occasion of its 100th Anniversary

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to the significant milestones of those organizations of high
purpose and worthy accomplishment which serve to protect, preserve and
maintain public order; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the
Bedford Police Department upon the occasion of its 100th Anniversary;
and
WHEREAS, Operating 24-hours a day, seven days a week, the Bedford
Police Department provides the latest in professional police protection
to citizens in New Bedford, New York; and
WHEREAS, Led by Chief Chris Menzel and three Lieutenants who serve as
commanders of the patrol, administration and staff services divisions,
the Bedford Police Department consists of 45 sworn police officers and
14 full and part-time civilians; and
WHEREAS, The Bedford Police Department includes a Detective Bureau
with a full time Detective/Youth Officer who is responsible for juvenile
and youth related matters including the DARE program and Youth Court; he
also works closely with schools and is liaison to the local drug abuse
prevention council; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the Bedford Police Department has a "School
Resource Officer" who is assigned to work with the various schools in
the Town of New Bedford as well; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body commends
the Bedford Police Department for its excellence and for its commitment
and contributions to the community it has so ably served for the past
100 years; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Bedford Police Department upon the occasion of its 100th Anni-
versary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Bedford Police Department.
