LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Thomas Usher upon the occasion of
his designation for special recognition as recipient of the 2009 Senior
Male Achievement Award by the Dutchess County Office for the Aging

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Thomas Usher upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition as recipient of the 2009 Senior Male Achievement Award by
the Dutchess County Office for the Aging; this auspicious occasion will
be celebrated at the annual Celebration of Aging luncheon, to be held at
the Villa Borghese in Wappingers Falls, New York, on Monday, May 18,
2009; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Usher of Poughquag, New York, is a refreshing throw-
back to a time when people served their community purely out of the call
for public service; he serves because he loves the Town of Beekman, and
to ensure that its quality of life is preserved for future generations;
and
WHEREAS, Serving as the Town of Beekman historian for the past six
years, Thomas Usher has helped the Town embrace its historical heritage;
he is a constant presence at town events from Beekman Community Day,
Beekman Library activities, local government and volunteer boards, and
various athletic events; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Usher is a walking textbook of knowledge of all things
Beekman, and is willing to share that knowledge with all; and
WHEREAS, Among the myriad accomplishments of Thomas Usher in the Town
of Beekman are: bringing attention to the "Old Upper Road," a major
thoroughfare used by colonial troops during the Revolutionary War;
restoring the old Mill House, a structure that dates back to the very
early history of the area; being a driving force in obtaining the desig-
nation for the Town of Beekman as a "Preserve America Community"; over-
seeing the activities of the Betsy Ross Club for the annual Beekman
Memorial Day Parade; and assisting the Dalton Farm Homeowners Associ-
ation in the restoration of a room in the historic Roosevelt House; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Thomas Usher has authored a book entitled, A
SHORT HISTORY OF THE TOWN OF BEEKMAN; he has also served in a special
advisory capacity to the Town's Comprehensive Plan Review Committee,
Economic Development Plan Committee, and Zoning Update Committee; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize and commend those who have witnessed and contributed to the devel-
opments and achievements of our Nation, State, and communities over the
course of their noteworthy lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Thomas Usher upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition as recipient of the 2009 Senior Male Achievement
Award by the Dutchess County Office for the Aging; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Thomas Usher, 96 Hillside Road, Poughquag, New York 12570.
