LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Michael C. Hayes for his dedicated
community leadership

WHEREAS, A great community is only as great as those persons and organ-
izations that provide exemplary service, whether through participation
in voluntary programs, through unique personal achievement in their
profession or other endeavors, or simply through a lifetime of good
citizenship; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor
Michael C. Hayes for his dedicated community leadership on June 1, 2009,
at the Old Guard Reunited Golf Tournament; and
WHEREAS, The son of Paul and Wilma Hayes, Michael C. Hayes was born in
Fair Haven, Vermont on October 11, 1938 and grew up in Putnam, New York;
he moved to Ticonderoga in 1951, and graduated from Ticonderoga High
School, where he lettered in all sports and was inducted into the
Athletic Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, After attending Ithaca College, Michael C. Hayes enlisted in
the United States Air Force in 1961, and was stationed at Evreux Air
Force Base in France and Lockborne Air Force Base in Columbus, Ohio; and
WHEREAS, Michael C. Hayes returned to upstate New York after being
discharged from the Air Force in 1965, and began working for Transport
Handling of Albany; he and his family moved to Glens Falls in 1967,
where he worked as a sales representative for R.J. Reynolds; and
WHEREAS, In 1976, Michael C. Hayes purchased Daggett Vending along
with his good friend and partner, Ben Patrick, whom he bought out 10
years later to become the sole proprietor of the business; he sold the
company to the Pepsi Cola Bottling Company in 1996; and
WHEREAS, Michael C. Hayes formed Hayes Amusements in 1980, which is
still owned and operated by his two sons, and further expanded his busi-
ness interests in 1983, by forming Adirondack Coffee Service, which was
sold to Vermont Pure in 1998; and
WHEREAS, In 1990, Michael C. Hayes formed Saratoga Vending, which is
now known as Evergreen Vending and located in southern Vermont; he also
founded and later sold Volt Landscaping and was involved in several area
real estate transactions; and
WHEREAS, While he was actively involved in numerous businesses in the
region, Michael C. Hayes also had strong sporting interests; he was
player, owner and coach of the legendary Patrick's Basketball Team,
which held its annual Invitational Tournament in Glens Falls from 1969
to 1980, when the Continental Basketball Association offered him a fran-
chise in the area; and
WHEREAS, During the 1980s, Michael C. Hayes was involved in horse
racing for a short period of time, when he owned several trotters and
pacers; he currently owns five horses and his love of horses was trans-
ferred to the famous north country breed known as Morgans; and
WHEREAS, Although Michael C. Hayes loved all sports, his passion was
golf; even though he was a low handicap player, he found promoting the
game captured his interest the most; and
WHEREAS, A member of the Glens Falls Country Club since 1976, Michael
C. Hayes founded the very popular Super Tuesday Golf Tournament in
1983, which attracted more than 750 participants each year, and the
Adirondack Team Challenge Golf Tournament, which brought together the
best golfers in upstate New York; and
WHEREAS, Michael C. Hayes also founded the October Cup, which invited
area golf professionals to an annual match against the best amateurs,
and the Donald Ross Cup, which pitted Junior members against Senior

members of Glens Falls Country Club in a weekend of strong competition
since 1986; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Michael C. Hayes displayed his promotional
skills and love of golf during the numerous trips that he organized
beginning in 1976 to golfing meccas such as Myrtle Beach, Pinehurst,
Hilton Head and the Tournament Players Championship; and
WHEREAS, Michael C. Hayes was one of the founders of the Ticonderoga
Alumni Association, and organized its first fund raising efforts with an
alumni golf tournament which has become a major highlight of the summer
golf season and led to the original Alumni Extravaganza; he further
displayed his love of the region by his development of 5 Nations Golf
Ranch; and
WHEREAS, In appreciation for his many contributions to the Ticonderoga
community and the surrounding areas, Michael C. Hayes was the recipient
of the Special Service Award by the Ticonderoga Alumni Association; and
WHEREAS, With Michael C. Hayes throughout have been his wife of more
than 40 years, Sally, their two sons, Jamie and Mickey, four grandchil-
dren, Cameron Marie, Samantha Lynn, Emma Wickes and Lance Michael, and
his three sisters, Peggy Powvorznik, Pat LaBonte and Mary Ravida, all of
whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his many
achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Michael C. Hayes for his dedicated community leadership; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Michael C. Hayes.
