LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending James Durrah upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the Neighborhood Technical
Assistance Clinic on July 1, 2009
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge those exemplary individuals whose purposeful lives
and distinguished careers have been committed to bettering the quality
of life in this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
James Durrah upon the occasion of his designation for special recogni-
tion by the Neighborhood Technical Assistance Clinic; and
WHEREAS, James Durrah will be honored by the Neighborhood Technical
Assistance Clinic at its 11th Anniversary Celebration, a salute to New
York City's nonprofits and the neighborhoods they serve, to be held on
Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Steiner Studios 6, Brooklyn Navy Yard,
Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, A man of singular distinction, James Durrah has continually
demonstrated extreme competence, extraordinary intelligence and diligent
leadership in his unwavering service to his community and profession and
consequently has been selected to receive this most prestigious acco-
lade; and
WHEREAS, A resident of New York for the past 32 years, James Durrah is
a career civil servant who currently serves as Assistant Commissioner
for Operations in the New York City Department of Health and Mental
Hygiene; and
WHEREAS, Prior to this position, James Durrah worked for the United
States Public Health Services as a Public Health Policy Manager for the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia, Memphis,
Tennessee, and New York City, New York; and
WHEREAS, James Durrah is also an Adjunct Professor of English and
Writing at Touro College and serves as a member of the Nominating
Committee for the New York City Municipal Credit Union; and
WHEREAS, Despite his busy professional life, James Durrah has been
called upon to contribute his time and talents to countless endeavors
and has always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, An exemplary leader, James Durrah is a former Executive Vice
President of the New York City Managerial Employees Association, where
he has maintained an active membership for the past 17 years; and
WHEREAS, Additionally, James Durrah is the past President of both the
500 Block MacDonough Street Association and the P.S. 70 Community Asso-
ciation; he has also served as the Corresponding Secretary and Vice
President of the 81st Police Precinct Community Council; and
WHEREAS, Today, James Durrah is Board President of the Neighborhood
Housing Services of Bedford Stuyvesant and is a member of the Bedford
Stuyvesant International Lions Club; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his service, a period of
constructive involvement, James Durrah has stood constant in dignity,
good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, James Durrah earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the
University of South Carolina and a Master's degree in Public Adminis-
tration from New York University; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, his three children,
as well as his two granddaughters, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which James Durrah has displayed through-
out his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend James Durrah upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Neighborhood Technical Assistance Clinic on July 1,
2009; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to James Durrah.
