LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Adam C. Henry, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Adam Henry died on Thursday, May 14, 2009, at the age of 39;
and
WHEREAS, Born in New Haven, Connecticut, Adam Henry was the first
child of Santa Wardlaw-Henry and Brent Henry; he was educated in the
public schools of Shaker Heights, Ohio, and Washington, D.C. before
transferring to The Sidwell Friends School in Washington; and
WHEREAS, After graduation from Sidwell, Adam Henry studied at Prince-
ton University, where he majored in Psychology and received a certif-
icate in African American Studies; he graduated from Princeton in 1991,
and joined The Upjohn Company as a sales representative in Baltimore,
Maryland, where he was considered one of the local "rising stars" until
his departure for Columbia Law School; and
WHEREAS, Adam Henry began his legal career as an associate at the law
firm of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton in New York; in his fourth year
at the firm, he became ill and decided to pursue a path that allowed him
more freedom to grow both as a lawyer and as a citizen of the world; and
WHEREAS, Adam Henry remained at the law firm while becoming more deep-
ly involved in pro bono and community service activities; he served on
the boards of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, The Bronx Charter
School for Excellence, and Career Gear; and
WHEREAS, Adam Henry spent a year in Brazil, working on assignment from
the law firm as an inside counsel for one of its largest mining clients,
Vale; he was eventually hired by the client as their counsel for the
African continent, based in Johannesburg, South Africa; despite his
illness, Adam was an intrepid traveler, but always found time to "get
the job done" and keep in touch with friends and family back home; and
WHEREAS, Adam Henry distinguished himself in his profession and by his
sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of his
community; and
WHEREAS, Adam Henry's commitment to excellence, and his spirit of
humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charita-
ble and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Adam Henry is survived by his father, his sister, A'isha, his
stepmother, Minnie Baylor-Henry, and countless others whose lives he
touched; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Adam C. Henry, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Adam C. Henry.
