LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Thomas Linehan upon the occasion
of receiving the distinguished rank of Eagle Scout, the most prestigious
of Scouting honors, on February 8, 2008

WHEREAS, Thomas Linehan, through his diligence and rigorous efforts, has
achieved Scouting's highest and most prestigious rank, Eagle Scout; an
Eagle Court of Honor ceremony was held on February 8, 2008; and
WHEREAS, The son of Thomas and Lori Linehan, 18-year-old Thomas Line-
han was a member of Boy Scouts of America Troop 73 and is currently a
student at Nyack College in Nyack, New York; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Linehan became a Tiger Cub with Pack 1 at George Wash-
ington Elementary School and progressed through the Cub Scout program
becoming a Wolf, Bear and Webelos Scout; and
WHEREAS, He joined Troop 73 in 2001 and earned the ranks of Tender-
foot, Second Class and First Class, as well as those of Star, in 2005,
and Life in 2006; in addition, Thomas Linehan ably served the Troop in
several leadership positions, including Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol
Leader, Guide, Scribe, and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Linehan's Scouting adventures included camping trips
to Valley Forge, the Civil War Battlefield at Antietam, the Widow Jane
Mine, and other sites throughout New York State and the northeast; he
also participated in a 10 day trek through South Dakota, Wyoming and
Montana and earned many merit badges and other awards; and
WHEREAS, America has achieved her greatest heights of glory through
the dedication, determination and tireless efforts of the outstanding
citizens of this Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is only with the continued diligence and devotion of our
youth, tomorrow's leaders, that America will maintain her glory; and
WHEREAS, The Boy Scouts of America and its members are dedicated to
the development of character and leadership in the youth of this Nation;
and
WHEREAS, The highest achievement of leadership in Scouting, earned by
only five percent of all Boy Scouts, is the distinguished rank of Eagle
Scout; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding young man has been involved in Scouting for
many years, has lived up to Scouting's ideals and has attained all of
the necessary achievements, including completion of a community service
project, which was successfully planned, developed and executed; and
WHEREAS, For his Eagle project, Thomas Linehan, with the help of
several volunteers, restored and renovated a portion of the Greenway
Walking Trail in White Plains, New York; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Linehan and his crew cleared the trail, which runs
between Gedney Way and Ridgeway Avenue, of debris and excess vegetation,
laid a new layer of wood chips on the trail and added new decorative
plantings to one of the trailheads, greatly beautifying the trail and
enhancing the pleasure of all those who use it; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Linehan's perseverance in rising through the ranks to
Eagle Scout is a strong indication of his ability to master difficult
tasks; his accomplishment will enable him to emerge as a leader, fully
equipped to meet the challenges of today's complex society; and
WHEREAS, This new Eagle Scout is a credit to his family, his school,
his community, his State and his Nation, and no doubt his future will be
filled with accomplishments of equal importance; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations, in
recognition of the significance of this meritorious achievement, to
congratulate and honor Thomas Linehan on achieving the rank of Eagle
Scout; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Thomas Linehan.
