LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Reverend Father Alfred A. Lamanna upon
the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of his Ordination to the Priesthood
on June 11, 2009

WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life in
this noble Empire State is nourished and fulfilled through the faithful
concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit their energies
and purpose to the ministry of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to bring full recog-
nition and just tribute to those individuals who distinguish themselves
and the ministry through their unremitting commitment and preeminence of
service; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Reverend
Father Alfred A. Lamanna upon the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of
his Ordination to the Priesthood on June 11, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Father Alfred A. Lamanna was ordained on June 11,
1949, by Bishop Edmund F. Gibbons at the Cathedral of the Immaculate
Conception in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, In 1950, Father Lamanna initiated the Catholic Youth Organ-
ization (CYO) Basketball League; he served as Director of the CYO in
Herkimer County from 1952-1958; and
WHEREAS, During that same time, Father Lamanna was the Chaplain of the
Herkimer County Boy Scouts; he was also one of the National Chaplains at
the 1957 National Boy Scout Jamboree held at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania;
and from 1953-1958, the Chaplain of the Ilion Council of the Knights of
Columbus; and
WHEREAS, The following year, Father Lamanna served as the Albany Dioc-
ese Director of the American Committee on Italian Migration (ACIM), a
position he held until 1967; the efforts of the ACIM were instrumental
in the passage of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 and Father
Lamanna was cited for his work by the ACIM National Office; and
WHEREAS, He served as Pastor of the Churches of St. Catherine's,
Middleburgh, New York, and St. Joseph's located in Schoharie, New York,
for three years; and
WHEREAS, Father Lamanna faithfully served for 31 years at St. Mary's
Church in Frankfort, New York, 25 of which were as Pastor from 1969
through 1994; and
WHEREAS, Due to his concern for the safety of the children riding to
school on buses, Father Lamanna spearheaded the construction of a new
bridge over the railroad tracks on North Railroad Street connecting the
Townships of Frankfort and Schuyler; on August 4, 1994, the bridge was
dedicated and named in his honor for his ceaseless efforts; and
WHEREAS, Although Father Lamanna retired in 1994, he is still the
Spiritual Director of the St. Padre Pio Prayer Group, serving the people
of Central New York, as well as assisting area parishes and serving as
the Chaplain of the Herkimer Council of the Knights of Columbus; and
WHEREAS, Father Lamanna has brought to his ministry an overwhelming
spirit of charity and compassion, acting from vision and enlightenment
in conducting his administrative and spiritual duties, while always
displaying the highest standards of personal and professional integrity
and dedication; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished man of God has always given enlightenment,
guidance and wisdom to the many entrusted to his care and has adminis-
tered abundantly and unstintingly to the spiritual and corporal needs of
all; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention it is

appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend that indi-
vidual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Reverend Father Alfred A. Lamanna upon the occasion of the 60th
Anniversary of his Ordination to the Priesthood, noting his unremitting
and compassionate faith and his exemplary service to God, man, and his
community, and extending to him heartfelt best wishes for a future of
purposeful success and well-being; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Reverend Father Alfred A. Lamanna.
