LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Miraline Rivera upon the occasion
of her designation for special recognition as recipient of a Martin
Luther King, Jr. Award by ARC of Rockland

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose lives, personal endeavors, spirit, service
and courage are an example and inspiration to their colleagues, friends,
and family; and
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Miraline Rivera upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition as recipient of a Martin Luther King, Jr. Award by ARC of
Rockland; this auspicious occasion was celebrated at the organization's
10th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Awards Ceremony, held on Tuesday,
January 13, 2009, at ARC's headquarters in Congers, New York; and
WHEREAS, Each of the recipients of a Martin Luther King, Jr. Award by
ARC of Rockland has the spirit and will to succeed that was so revered
by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; they were chosen for their determi-
nation, dedication and conviction to advance the rights of all people,
and for truly reflecting the values espoused by Dr. King; and
WHEREAS, Miraline Rivera of Yonkers, New York, is a residence manager
at an ARC intermediate care facility housing people with both develop-
mental disabilities and medical challenges; and
WHEREAS, Always managing to take the initiative no matter what the
task or perceived obstacle, Miraline Rivera's dedication and passion is
to help enable each resident of the ARC home to enjoy a meaningful life;
and
WHEREAS, Miraline Rivera's work and the time she has spent helping
others has given her an education and set of experiences to be treas-
ured; she looks beyond the current state of affairs and sees the poten-
tial that each and every human being possesses and is yearning to be
fulfilled; and
WHEREAS, Miraline Rivera has stood constant in courage, dignity, good
grace and humor, and has earned the respect and admiration of her
colleagues, family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication, spirit and courage
shown by an individual which Miraline Rivera has displayed throughout
her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Miraline Rivera upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition as recipient of a Martin Luther King, Jr. Award by
ARC of Rockland; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Miraline Rivera.
