LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Bruce Varon upon the occasion of receiv-
ing the Jawonio Friends Award from the Jawonio Foundation on October 24,
2009

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Bruce Varon has given not only of his time and energies but
also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Bruce Varon
upon the occasion of receiving the Jawonio Friends Award from the Jawon-
io Foundation at its 44th Annual Dinner Dance to be held on Saturday,
October 24, 2009, at Dellwood Country Club, New City, New York; and
WHEREAS, Each year Jawonio honors individuals who have exemplified the
spirit of compassion in their lives and careers through their support
and commitment to Jawonio; and
WHEREAS, Bruce Varon is a man of singular distinction who through his
actions and deeds has made a significant impact on the lives of people
with disabilities and special needs throughout his community; and
WHEREAS, For over 15 years, Bruce Varon has worked for Hoffman LaRoche
and for the past 26 years, he has diligently served as the Divisional
Director of Youth Activities for United Synagogue Youth (USY); he has
also served as a Trustee for the Reuben Gittelman Hebrew Day School; and
WHEREAS, Each December, since 1994, Bruce Varon has coordinated a very
special event for individuals with disabilities at Jawonio; utilizing
the Jawonio work center in New City, he and more than 200 teenagers from
USY, have created the Jawonio Holiday Carnival, which continues to
thrive today; and
WHEREAS, A resident of New City, New York, Bruce Varon has been called
upon to contribute his time and talents to countless civic and charita-
ble endeavors and has always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Bruce Varon has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of 27 years and their
two sons, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and
rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Bruce Varon has displayed throughout
his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Bruce Varon upon the occasion of receiving the Jawonio Friends
Award from the Jawonio Foundation; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Bruce Varon.
