LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Karen Gritmon upon the occasion of
her designation for special recognition as recipient of a Martin Luther
King, Jr. Award by ARC of Rockland

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose lives, personal endeavors, spirit, service
and courage are an example and inspiration to their colleagues, friends,
and family; and
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Karen Gritmon upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition as recipient of a Martin Luther King, Jr. Award by ARC of
Rockland; this auspicious occasion was celebrated at the organization's
10th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Awards Ceremony, held on Tuesday,
January 13, 2009, at ARC's headquarters in Congers, New York; and
WHEREAS, Each of the recipients of a Martin Luther King, Jr. Award by
ARC of Rockland has the spirit and will to succeed that was so revered
by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; they were chosen for their determi-
nation, dedication and conviction to advance the rights of all people,
and for truly reflecting the values espoused by Dr. King; and
WHEREAS, Karen Gritmon of Pearl River, New York, works at a Target
Department store and attends ARC of Rockland's Senior Center; and
WHEREAS, President of the Senior Stars Self Advocacy group, Karen
Gritmon has a dream to see to it that more people with disabilities are
given the opportunity to work in the community; and
WHEREAS, Karen Gritmon is passionate about wanting all people with
disabilities to have the same rights as everyone; she helps people speak
up for themselves; and
WHEREAS, Karen Gritmon has stood constant in courage, dignity, good
grace and humor, and has earned the respect and admiration of her
colleagues, family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication, spirit and courage
shown by an individual which Karen Gritmon has displayed throughout her
life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Karen Gritmon upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition as recipient of a Martin Luther King, Jr. Award by
ARC of Rockland; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Karen Gritmon, Pearl River, New York.
