LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Warren Fuller upon the occasion of his
retirement as teacher and coach after 38 years of dedicated service to
the students of Wyandanch School District on October 9, 2009
WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled; its
history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its educa-
tional professionals and the students they inspire; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of those outstanding
educational leaders, whose dedication and achievements have been instru-
mental in developing character and academic excellence in the young
people of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Warren Fuller upon the occasion of his retirement as teacher and coach
after 38 years of dedicated service to the students of Wyandanch School
District, to be celebrated on Friday, October 9, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Born in Jamaica, Queens, in February 1948, Warren Fuller's
family moved to Wyandanch in 1951; he attended the Wyandanch School
District from kindergarten through grade 12, graduating in 1966; he then
attended Hiram Scott College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree
in Physical Education and went on to complete graduate work in the field
of Health at Hofstra University and C.W. Post; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Fuller, as he is graciously called by students and
colleagues, began his esteemed career with the Wyandanch School District
in 1971; and
WHEREAS, Warren Fuller has taught Physical Education and Health at the
high school; he is responsible for presenting to the Board of Education
a Sex Education curriculum for the high school that was adopted; during
his tenure, he worked closely with and brought into the school various
health related organizations including: the Suffolk County Department of
Health, various Suffolk County Drug Abuse programs and M.A.D.D. (Moth-
er's Against Drunk Driving); and
WHEREAS, In addition, Warren Fuller served as a class advisor with the
classes of 1974, 79, 85, 86, 87, 93, and 2003; he has participated in
and has overseen many pep rallies and graduations while at Wyandanch; he
also is a member of the Scholarship Committee of Wyandanch, an organiza-
tion that annually gives scholarships to Wyandanch students; and
WHEREAS, Truly dedicated to his students, Warren Fuller has also
coached many sports at Wyandanch with his most successful seasons being
with the Girls Varsity Basketball team; among his championships over the
past 31 years are 20 League titles, 17 Classification titles, 12 Long
Island Classification titles, five Overall Suffolk County Championships,
three New York State Championships, and two Federation Titles; and
WHEREAS, In the 1980s NEWSDAY ran a poll asking its readers to choose
the top female high school program in any sport of the 1980s and, unan-
imously, the Wyandanch Girls Basketball Program won the poll; at one
time, the girls were ranked as high as 6th in the nation by USA TODAY
and ranked number one in New York State several times by NEW YORK STATE
SPORTSWRITERS; under his leadership, the Girls Varsity Basketball
program has had full scholarships awarded to many players; and
WHEREAS, Warren Fuller is the all-time career wins leader for girls
basketball coaches on Long Island with 553 victories and is second over-
all in New York State; he has been inducted into the Suffolk County
Sports Hall of Fame, the Basketball Coaches Association of New York Hall
of Fame, and as a player, he is in the Long Island Metro ASA Softball
Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, Educators like Warren Fuller provide a tremendous service to
the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of young
people in their educational journeys and ensuring their success in their
future years; and
WHEREAS, Warren Fuller has clearly had an enduring impact on the youth
of the Wyandanch School District, as well as on the community-at-large,
and accordingly merits recognition and applause for his impressive dedi-
cation to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our schools;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Warren Fuller upon the occasion of his retirement as teacher and
coach after 38 years of dedicated service to the students of Wyandanch
School District, and to wish him continued success in all of his future
endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Warren Fuller.
