LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Michael Essig upon the occasion of his
designation as Member of the Year by the New York State Fraternal Order
of Police, Mid-Hudson Lodge No. 188 on October 16, 2009

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote themselves to
public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing
for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Michael
Essig upon the occasion of his designation as Member of the Year by the
New York State Fraternal Order of Police, Mid-Hudson Lodge No. 188 at
its 25th Silver Anniversary Dinner Dance to be held on Friday, October
16, 2009, at Nyack Seaport, Nyack, New York; and
WHEREAS, Born in the Bronx, Michael Essig moved to Rockland County and
then to Orange County where he settled with his family and still resides
today; and
WHEREAS, Since Michael Essig was a small child he always dreamed of
working in law enforcement; following his passion, he graduated high in
his class from the Westchester Police Academy in 1988; and
WHEREAS, For the past 21 years, Michael Essig has displayed persever-
ance and dedication in his chosen profession and was recognized by his
peers when he was appointed as a Union Delegate; and
WHEREAS, A longtime member of the New York State Fraternal Order of
Police, Michael Essig was elected Recording Secretary of his Lodge;
showing extraordinary leadership qualities in a very short time, he was
elected Secretary, a position he still holds today; and
WHEREAS, Additionally, Michael Essig has run for and won the position
of State Sergeant-At-Arms as well as State 2nd Vice President; along
with his committee, he also oversees the production of the BADGE MAGA-
ZINE; and
WHEREAS, Michael Essig has given of his time and energies to numerous
community organizations; he sits on the Board of Directors for Hudson
Valley Region Easter Seals, where he was recognized for his work with
the Port Jervis Project, as well as many other events; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Michael Essig is the Parliamentarian for the
Orange County Shields and is Past Vice President of the Rockland County
Police Steuben's Association; he is also a member of the Rockland County
Shield, and the Haverstraw Elks Lodge, as well as various other police
and law enforcement associations; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Victoria, as well as
his three children, Rebecca, Robert and Brianna, all of whom feel privi-
leged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Michael Essig upon the occasion of his designation as Member of
the Year by the New York State Fraternal Order of Police, Mid-Hudson
Lodge No. 188 on October 16, 2009; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Michael Essig.
