LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Elnora Sanders upon the occasion
of her designation for special recognition as recipient of a Martin
Luther King, Jr. Award by ARC of Rockland
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose lives, personal endeavors, spirit, service
and courage are an example and inspiration to their colleagues, friends,
and family; and
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Elnora Sanders upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition as recipient of a Martin Luther King, Jr. Award by ARC of
Rockland; this auspicious occasion was celebrated at the organization's
10th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Awards Ceremony, held on Tuesday,
January 13, 2009, at ARC's headquarters in Congers, New York; and
WHEREAS, Each of the recipients of a Martin Luther King, Jr. Award by
ARC of Rockland has the spirit and will to succeed that was so revered
by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; they were chosen for their determi-
nation, dedication and conviction to advance the rights of all people,
and for truly reflecting the values espoused by Dr. King; and
WHEREAS, Elnora Sanders was one of six African-American students to
graduate from the first racially integrated high school in her hometown
of Statesboro, Georgia; and
WHEREAS, Joining the staff of ARC of Rockland in 2000 as a direct
support professional, Elnora Sanders has advanced to become a manager of
an ARC community residence; and
WHEREAS, Cited as a role model for both staff members and those in her
care, Elnora Sanders is a compassionate and strong teacher intent on
seeing to it that each person in her care leads a fulfilling life; she
has helped to create a caring and nurturing home environment at ARC of
Rockland; and
WHEREAS, Elnora Sanders has stood constant in courage, dignity, good
grace and humor, and has earned the respect and admiration of her
colleagues, family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication, spirit and courage
shown by an individual which Elnora Sanders has displayed throughout her
life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Elnora Sanders upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition as recipient of a Martin Luther King, Jr. Award by
ARC of Rockland; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Elnora Sanders.
