LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of John J. Mirras, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, John Mirras of Geneva, New York died on Wednesday, October
21, 2009, at the age of 69; and
WHEREAS, John Mirras distinguished himself in his profession and by
his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and
WHEREAS, John Mirras' commitment to excellence, and his spirit of
humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charita-
ble and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, John Mirras was born August 13, 1940, in Canandaigua, and
lived in Geneva for many years; he was the son of the late James J. and
Ann Knapp Mirras; and
WHEREAS, John Mirras graduated from Canandaigua Academy in 1958, and
was the owner and operator of the family-owned Pumpernickel Restaurant
in Geneva for over 27 years, and of Yanni's Cafe in Canandaigua for four
years before his retirement; and
WHEREAS, John Mirras was a life member of AHEPA Greek fraternal organ-
ization, Ducks Unlimited and St. Michael's Antiochan Orthodox Church; in
addition, he was a former member of the Geneva Country Club and Geneva
Rod and Gun Club; and
WHEREAS, John Mirras is survived by his wife, Maryann, his daughter,
Kathianne, his sons, Michael and John, his six grandchildren, Elena,
James, Stephanie, John, Victoria, and George, his brother, Thomas, and
several nieces and and nephews; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of John J. Mirras, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of John J. Mirras.
