LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 90th Anniversary of the Syra-

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those illustrious organizations of distinguished purpose that
have been committed to the pursuit of excellence and that bring great
pride to the citizens of our great State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to
commemorate the 90th Anniversary of the Syracuse Stamp Club; and
WHEREAS, The Syracuse Stamp Club was founded on November 10, 1919,
when a group of avid stamp collectors organized the club to promote and
share their interests with one another and their community; they did so
by holding meetings at the Onondaga Historical Society building, holding
auctions once or twice a year, participating in the First Day ceremonies
for the 1927 Saratoga commemorative stamp, and by holding a banquet on
May 21, 1931, that featured the legendary collector, Arthur Hind; and
WHEREAS, The Club gradually continued to grow and in 1940, it signed
on as a charter member of the Federation of Central New York Philatelic
Societies; in the 1940s the club began hosting an annual stamp show and
dinner, and many of its members had become philatelic specialists and
had outstanding collections; and
WHEREAS, During the 1950s, the Syracuse Stamp Club continued to expand
and in 1956, it merged with the Syracuse Women's Stamp Club, allowing
female members for the first time in the club's history; in 1959, it
began a monthly newsletter that eventually became the Stamp Insider; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception in 1919, the Syracuse Stamp Club has seen
many changes and vast growth; it has seen the type of collector shift to
topical rather than general as was common in the club's beginning;
membership has continued to grow and auctions have become more frequent;
and
WHEREAS, The Syracuse Stamp Club has also served as a generational
bridge by bringing junior collectors together with longtime members,
ensuring that the Club will continue to grow and prosper with each new
generation; and
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of President Michael Ammann, the Syra-
cuse Stamp Club has exceptional officers and directors who are as enthu-
siastic, vigorous and hardworking as that of the forebearers, and
continue to stand as a tribute to the club's founders; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor and pay tribute to the Syracuse Stamp Club for its 90 years of
service; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Michael Ammann, President of the Syracuse Stamp Club.
