LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  commemorating the 90th Anniversary of the Syra-
cuse Stamp Club
WHEREAS, It is the sense of  this  Legislative  Body  to  recognize  and
commend  those  illustrious  organizations of distinguished purpose that
have been committed to the pursuit of excellence and  that  bring  great
pride to the citizens of our great State; and
  WHEREAS,  Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is  the  intent  of  this  Legislative  Body  to
commemorate the 90th Anniversary of the Syracuse Stamp Club; and
  WHEREAS,  The  Syracuse  Stamp  Club was founded on November 10, 1919,
when a group of avid stamp collectors organized the club to promote  and
share  their interests with one another and their community; they did so
by holding meetings at the Onondaga Historical Society building, holding
auctions once or twice a year, participating in the First Day ceremonies
for the 1927 Saratoga commemorative stamp, and by holding a  banquet  on
May 21, 1931, that featured the legendary collector, Arthur Hind; and
  WHEREAS,  The  Club gradually continued to grow and in 1940, it signed
on as a charter member of the Federation of Central New York  Philatelic
Societies;  in the 1940s the club began hosting an annual stamp show and
dinner, and many of its members had become  philatelic  specialists  and
had outstanding collections; and
  WHEREAS, During the 1950s, the Syracuse Stamp Club continued to expand
and  in  1956,  it merged with the Syracuse Women's Stamp Club, allowing
female members for the first time in the club's  history;  in  1959,  it
began a monthly newsletter that eventually became the Stamp Insider; and
  WHEREAS, Since its inception in 1919, the Syracuse Stamp Club has seen
many changes and vast growth; it has seen the type of collector shift to
topical  rather  than  general  as  was  common in the club's beginning;
membership has continued to grow and auctions have become more frequent;
and
  WHEREAS, The Syracuse Stamp Club has also  served  as  a  generational
bridge  by  bringing  junior  collectors together with longtime members,
ensuring that the Club will continue to grow and prosper with  each  new
generation; and
  WHEREAS,  Under  the leadership of President Michael Ammann, the Syra-
cuse Stamp Club has exceptional officers and directors who are as enthu-
siastic, vigorous and  hardworking  as  that  of  the  forebearers,  and
continue  to  stand as a tribute to the club's founders; now, therefore,
be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
honor  and  pay  tribute  to the Syracuse Stamp Club for its 90 years of
service; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Michael Ammann, President of the Syracuse Stamp Club.
