LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Outgoing Chief Walter W. Singer, III
upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition after many
years of dedicated service to the North Lindenhurst Fire Department

WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers", the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Outgoing Chief Walter W. Singer, III upon the occasion of his desig-
nation for special recognition after many years of dedicated service to
the North Lindenhurst Fire Department; this auspicious occasion will be
celebrated on Saturday, February 20, 2010, at the Department's 53rd
Annual Inspection and Installation Dinner; and
WHEREAS, Chief Walter W. Singer, III joined the North Lindenhurst Fire
Department on March 13, 1984; he became a member of Engine Company No. 1
and is still a member of that company; and
WHEREAS, Serving as Chief of the North Lindenhurst Fire Department,
1996-1998 and in 2007, 2008 and 2009, Walter W. Singer, III was First
Deputy Chief, 1993-1996 and 2005-2007, and Second Deputy Chief,
1992-1993 and 2003-2005; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Walter W. Singer, III was the Captain, First
Lieutenant, and Second Lieutenant of Engine Company No. 1; he also
served as Captain, Lieutenant, and Secretary/Treasurer of the Rescue
Squad and Secretary/Treasurer of the Drill Team; and
WHEREAS, Among many awards received by Walter W. Singer, III during
and throughout his career with the North Lindenhurst Fire Department
are: Rescue Call of the Year (Life Saving Award), High Department
percentage, High Rescue Call percentage, High Overall percentage, High
Company percentage, and High Rescue percentage; and
WHEREAS, A member of both the Homeland Security Team and Haz/Mat
Response Team for Suffolk County and the Town of Babylon, Outgoing Chief
Walter W. Singer, III is one of the first junior members of the North
Lindenhurst Fire Department to achieve the rank of Chief of the Depart-
ment; his son, Brian, is presently a junior member of the Department and
elected to the position of First Lieutenant; and
WHEREAS, Walter W. Singer, III is a retired Sergeant with the New York
Police Department; he is a life-long resident of North Lindenhurst where
he resides with his wife, Ellen, and two sons, Ryan and Tyler; and
WHEREAS, The faithful service to the North Lindenhurst Volunteer Fire
Department rendered by Outgoing Chief Walter W. Singer, III has been
extraordinarily beneficial to the membership of the Department and to
the residents of the North Lindenhurst community; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only provide
the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other activ-
ities of great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; Outgo-
ing Chief Walter W. Singer, III is such a firefighter; throughout his
many years of devoted service, this volunteer heroically performed,
above and beyond the call of duty, those responsibilities which define
the task of fire protection; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Outgoing Chief Walter W. Singer, III upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition after many years of dedicated
service to the North Lindenhurst Fire Department; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Outgoing Chief Walter W. Singer, III, North Lindenhurst Fire
Department, 1630 Straight Path, North Lindenhurst, New York 11757.
