LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Rose Veronica Moroney upon the occasion
of her designation as Aide to the Grand Marshal for New York City's 2010
St. Patrick's Day Parade

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those individuals of true purpose and worthy accomplishment who work
diligently to preserve and celebrate their rich cultural heritage; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Rose
Veronica Moroney upon the occasion of her designation as Aide to the
Grand Marshal for New York City's 2010 St. Patrick's Day Parade; and
WHEREAS, In acknowledgment of this most prestigious appointment, Rose
Veronica Moroney will be recognized at the annual Emerald Ball to be
held on Saturday, February 27, 2010, at the Sheraton Crossroads, Mahwah,
New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, Always called "Ronnie" by family and friends, Rose Veronica
Moroney was born in New York City, one of three daughters; her mother
Rose McCartan was from Backaderry, County Down, and her father Stephen,
from Slievenisky, County Armagh; her father was a talented flute player
who marched with the County Down Fife and Drum Band for many years; and
WHEREAS, Rose Veronica Moroney graduated from St. Jean Baptiste High
School; she married Patrick Moroney of County Clare during the blizzard
of February 1961, in St. Elizabeth's Church; they moved to Pearl River
in 1965, and raised six children; three sons, Patrick, Michael and
Thomas and three daughters, Eileen, Katherine and Teresa; today, they
are proud grandparents of 14 grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, In 1976, Rose Veronica Moroney graduated from Rockland Commu-
nity College as a Registered Nurse; at the time of her retirement she
was a Program Coordinator for the Home Care Services division of the
Department of Social Services in Rockland County; and
WHEREAS, Rose Veronica Moroney has been a member of Ladies Ancient
Order of Hibernians (LAOH) Division III in Pearl River for many years,
and served the Division in the office of Vice President; in addition to
her work with LAOH, she is an active volunteer for United Hospice; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of her efforts of in-depth magnitude, Rose
Veronica Moroney has been the recipient of numerous awards and acco-
lades; she was named a New York State Senate Woman of Distinction in
2003 and was also designated Businesswoman of the Year in 1999 by the
Rockland County Hibernians; and
WHEREAS, A Saint Patrick's Day parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland, and provides an opportunity
for people of all generations to assemble in ethnic pride and pageantry;
and
WHEREAS, A fitting choice for Aide to the Grand Marshal for the New
York City St. Patrick's Day Parade, Rose Veronica Moroney embodies the
spirit and the cherished ideals and values of Irish-Americans of this
great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Rose Veronica Moroney upon the occasion of her designation as Aide
to the Grand Marshal of New York City's 2010 St. Patrick's Day Parade;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rose Veronica Moroney.
