LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring May Corrigan Kreider upon the occasion
of her designation as the Grand Marshal of the 2010 Rockland County St.
Patrick's Day Parade

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those individuals of true purpose and worthy accomplishment who work
diligently to preserve and celebrate their rich cultural heritage; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor May
Corrigan Kreider upon the occasion of her designation as the Grand
Marshal of the 2010 Rockland County St. Patrick's Day Parade; and
WHEREAS, In acknowledgment of this most prestigious appointment, May
Corrigan Kreider will be recognized at the annual Emerald Ball to be
held on Saturday, February 27, 2010, at the Sheraton Crossroads, Mahwah,
New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, May Corrigan Kreider was born in the South Bronx to Patrick
and Molly Quegan Corrigan; her father was from Clareen, County Offaly,
Ireland, while her mother was from Birr, County Offaly, Ireland; as a
child, May and her father were frequent marchers in the New York City
Saint Patrick's Day Parade and could always be found with the Offaly
contingent; and
WHEREAS, Raised in Pelham Bay, New York, May Corrigan Kreider attended
Our Lady of the Assumption and Villa Marie Academy; in 1971, she and her
family moved to Pearl River, New York; and
WHEREAS, During her early years in Rockland County, May Corrigan
Kreider joined Division 3 LAOH and in her spare time, she attended Rock-
land Community College (RCC), where she majored in nursing; after
completing her studies at RCC, she went to Mercy College where she
earned her Bachelor of Science degree; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduation, May Corrigan Kreider was hired by Columbia
Presbyterian Hospital; while at Columbia, she obtained her BSN degree as
well as her MA at EU; at the time of her retirement, she was an Oncology
Clinical Specialist and Head Nurse; and
WHEREAS, An active member of Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians (LAOH)
Division 3, May Corrigan Kreider has participated in numerous events;
she is the Chairperson of its annual Ascension Thursday Mass and Dinner
and she also co-chairs the annual Fashion Show; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, May Corrigan Kreider has worked for many years
on the Rockland County Feis and served on the Halfway to Saint Patrick's
Day "Night at the Races"; she has made many trips with the ladies to St.
Zita's Villa in Monsey and in 1997, she was chosen by the Ladies of
Division 3 to be their Aide to the Grand Marshal of the Rockland County
Parade; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her functions with the LAOH, May Corrigan
Kreider is the Chairperson for United Hospice of Rockland's annual Marie
Clark and Terry Cohn Golf Outing; she also delivers Meals on Wheels and
volunteers at United Hospice of Rockland and the American Cancer Socie-
ty; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, May Corrigan Kreider is a proud member of the Pearl
River Women's Club and a devoted parishioner of Saint Margaret of
Antioch; when residing in Florida, she is very active in the Irish
Community in the Villages; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of her efforts of in-depth magnitude, May
Corrigan Kreider has received numerous awards and accolades some of
which include the Community Service Award from the AOH Men's Division 3
and the United Hospice of Rockland and Columbia Presbyterian as their
Oncology Awards Specialist/Instructor; and

WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Robert, and their
five children, as well as their eight grandchildren, all of whom feel
privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, A Saint Patrick's Day parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland, and provides an opportunity
for people of all generations to assemble in ethnic pride and pageantry;
and
WHEREAS, A fitting choice for Grand Marshal of the Rockland County St.
Patrick's Day Parade, May Corrigan Kreider embodies the spirit and the
cherished ideals and values of Irish-Americans of this great State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor May Corrigan Kreider upon the occasion of her designation as the
Grand Marshal of the 2010 Rockland County St. Patrick's Day Parade; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to May Corrigan Kreider.
