LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Denean D. Ferguson of Far Rockaway,
Queens, for her steadfast devotion and selfless service to her community
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those individ-
uals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the community and its
citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Denean D. Ferguson of Far Rockaway, Queens, for her steadfast devotion
and selfless service to her community on Wednesday, February 10, 2010;
and
WHEREAS, Denean Ferguson is a 20-year resident of Far Rockaway; her
spiritual quest, 22 years ago, caused her to leave Long Island, become a
member of the Arverne Church of God and make her home on the Rockaway
peninsula; and
WHEREAS, Denean Ferguson has become renowned as an activist through
her church and community involvement; it is commonplace to see her with
her children at any civic meeting; an avid supporter of her community,
she looks beyond personalities and preferences to see the true vision;
and
WHEREAS, A strong advocate for the unfortunate, Denean Ferguson's
passion for making a difference has led her to a myriad of undertakings;
for the Arverne Church of God and Church of God Christian Academy, she
volunteers as the Grants and Technology Coordinator; she also serves as
a choir member, usher, and reader for the ministerial body; and
WHEREAS, Recently, Denean Ferguson served as the Site Coordinator for
the Far Rockaway Weed and Seed, a Department of Justice initiative that
brings together law enforcement, legislators, and community residents to
combat crime and enhance local neighborhoods; through this effort, she
has worked on Operation SNUG at the Redfern Houses; and
WHEREAS, Denean Ferguson has partnered with RDRC (Rockaway Development
& Revitalization Corp.) to work with the Summer Youth Employment
Program; in 2008, she took eleven youths under her tutelage to create a
youth directory for the Rockaway peninsula; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Denean Ferguson serves as Vice-President of the
101st Precinct Community Council, where she is working to improve
police-community relations; in this effort, she collaborated with the
NYPD, NYC Parks, Weed & Seed, legislators, and local organizations to
produce Celebrate Rockaway; in addition, she is part of the founding
body of the grassroots organization, ENACT (Edgemere Neighborhood Action
Community Team); and
WHEREAS, Denean Ferguson has been certified by the American Red Cross
of Greater New York to present Ready New York; this enables her to pres-
ent emergency preparedness presentations with local community groups as
a Ready Rockaway volunteer; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Denean Ferguson graduated from SUNY
Old Westbury, where she earned a Magna Cum Laude Bachelor of Science
degree in Management Information Systems; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Charles, and their
children, Vanessa and Carolynn, all of whom feel privileged to be a part
of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the life in their community and have shown a long and sustained
commitment to excellence certainly have earned recognition and applause;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Denean D. Ferguson of Far Rockaway, Queens, for her steadfast
devotion and selfless service to her community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Denean D. Ferguson.
