LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Gloria and Harvey Kaylie upon the
occasion of their designation by OHEL Children's Home and Family
Services as the Guests of Honor at its 40th Annual Dinner on Sunday,
February 21, 2010

WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in the Empire State is great-
ly enriched by the faithful and generous service of those whose purpose-
ful endeavors enhance the quality of life in their communities; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend individuals of such magnanimous conduct and bearing who demon-
strate a deep and continuing concern for others, and in so doing,
inspire others to do the same; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Gloria and Harvey Kaylie upon the occasion of their designation by OHEL
Children's Home and Family Services as the Guests of Honor at its 40th
Annual Dinner, to be held at the New York Hilton on Sunday, February 21,
2010; and
WHEREAS, Created in 1969, OHEL Children's Home and Family Services
provides homes and services for abandoned, neglected, abused and disa-
bled Jewish children and adults and families in crisis; through a varie-
ty of programs, it cares for thousands of people at every stage of life;
and
WHEREAS, With nearly 100 residences, apartments, and programs located
throughout New York City and surrounding areas, OHEL serves the entire
Jewish community in New York City and the New York Metropolitan region,
providing vital services to families in crisis, victims of domestic
violence and sexual abuse, people with disabilities who need housing and
day programs, and young adults fighting addiction; and
WHEREAS, Each year, at its Annual Dinner, OHEL Children's Home and
Family Services proudly recognizes the achievements of those who support
and work diligently on behalf of OHEL's children and families; and
WHEREAS, Gloria and Harvey Kaylie are longtime, devoted friends and
supporters of OHEL Children's Home and Family Services and truly merit
the high honor of being named Guests of Honor at its 40th Annual Dinner;
and
WHEREAS, Gloria and Harvey Kaylie's first gifts to OHEL were toys and
much-needed supplies for a child with disabilities; not long after, they
sponsored a delightful Succot trip to Hershey Park, Pennsylvania for
Bais Ezra clients and, as the saying goes, the rest is history; and
WHEREAS, The Kaylies have for many years been generous and devoted
members of the OHEL family; among many examples of their generosity,
they are benefactors of the Marvin Kaylie Tikvah at OHEL, named in honor
of Harvey's brother, and of the soon-to-be-dedicated OHEL CAMP; and
WHEREAS, The Kaylies first developed a personal relationship with OHEL
through their friends, the Schickman family of Long Island, who were
wonderful OHEL foster parents to five children; Gloria and Harvey know,
too, from personal family experience, how OHEL touches the lives of
people of all ages in need of quality care and services; and
WHEREAS, OHEL's personal relationship with the Kaylie family extends,
as well, to daughter, Roberta, an OHEL volunteer who has helped make
OHEL's annual Chanukah and Purim festivities resounding successes; and
WHEREAS, Gloria and Harvey Kaylie are visionary philanthropists who
understand the value of Jewish traditions and education and who believe
in service to others; in addition to establishing and supporting the
Harvey and Gloria Kaylie Foundation, they have generously supported the

Israel Cancer Research Foundation, local yeshivot, and numerous other
charitable organizations; and
WHEREAS, Harvey Kaylie serves on the Board of Overseers of Weill
Cornell Medical College and is a Vice Chair of America's Voice in Israel
while Gloria Kaylie serves on the Boards of the Israel Cancer Research
Foundation and Shaare Zedek; she is also an active member of UJA, Hadas-
sah, Rachel's Society, and numerous other Jewish organizations; and
WHEREAS, Harvey Kaylie is the President, Founder, and CEO of S.C.C.
doing business as Mini-Circuits, a high tech microwave electronics
company whose products are sold worldwide to electronics manufacturing
companies involved with communications, and has generously used his
considerable business skills and acumen to offer business advice which
has helped OHEL successfully manage its multitude of programs and
services; and
WHEREAS, Gloria and Harvey Kaylie are the proud parents of two daugh-
ters who are following in their parents' footsteps, continuing on the
path of tikun olam and working on behalf of OHEL and many other worthy
organizations and causes; no doubt their eight grandchildren will like-
wise become involved and valued members of their communities; and
WHEREAS, From giving the gift of joy to young children, to facilities
for adults living with disabilities, to smart business counsel, Gloria
and Harvey Kaylie are to be commended for their enduring leadership and
generosity and their devoted service to the OHEL community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, it is appropriate to publicly proclaim and commend them for the
edification and emulation of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Gloria and Harvey Kaylie upon the occasion of their designation
by OHEL Children's Home and Family Services as the Guests of Honor at
its 40th Annual Dinner on February 21, 2010; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gloria and Harvey Kaylie.
