LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Anne Mulligan upon the occasion of her
induction into the Bishop Kearney High School Hall of Fame on March 5,
2010

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend individuals who have distinguished themselves in their chosen
field of endeavor, in their community, or through a lifetime of good
citizenship; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Anne Mulligan upon the occasion of her induction into the Bishop Kearney
High School Hall of Fame at the school's Hall of Fame Dinner Dance, to
be held at Sirico's Caterers in Brooklyn on Friday, March 5, 2010; and
WHEREAS, Bishop Kearney High School, Brooklyn, New York, has a proud
tradition of a strong educational program, founded in faith and encour-
aging personal and educational development, coupled with commitment to
faith and to engaged citizenship; and
WHEREAS, The Bishop Kearney High School Hall of Fame honors outstand-
ing members of the Bishop Kearney family and community who exemplify and
support Kearney's mission to educate young women and whose lives and
accomplishments exemplify the tenets of the school; and
WHEREAS, Anne Mulligan, Bishop Kearney's beloved Academic Technology
Director, truly merits such recognition; and
WHEREAS, Born in Brooklyn, New York, Anne Mulligan is the daughter of
Joseph and Elizabeth Mulligan; she attended St. Michael's Elementary
School in Sunset Park and then St. Joseph's High School in downtown
Brooklyn; and
WHEREAS, Receiving a full scholarship to St. Joseph's College, she
graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in
English and a minor in Secondary Education; she continued her education
at New York University earning a master's degree, and later her Ph.D.,
in English Literature; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Anne Mulligan has taken courses in Adminis-
tration and Supervision at Fordham University; she has been recognized
by Who's Who Among American Teachers and has also been nominated for the
Disney Teaching Award; and
WHEREAS, Anne Mulligan's esteemed tenure with Bishop Kearney High
School began 35 years ago upon her graduation from St. Joseph's College;
over the years she has taught various courses and played numerous roles
at the school; in 1991, she became the Chairperson of the English
Department and served in that capacity for nine years; and
WHEREAS, While Chair of the English Department, she led the department
through the major change in the New York State English Regents Examina-
tion and was selected by the Board of Regents to work on various State
Education Department committees in Albany both designing and scoring
Regents Examinations; and
WHEREAS, Highly respected by her colleagues, Dr. Mulligan was also
invited to become a regional trainer; in this capacity, she trained
teachers in both Brooklyn and Queens for the implementation of the new
Regents tests; in addition to her work with the State Education Depart-
ment, she has served as a reader for the Advanced Placement English
exam; and
WHEREAS, After completing her tenure as Chair of the English Depart-
ment, Anne Mulligan was appointed Academic Technology Director for Bish-
op Kearney; in this role, she has created the Kearney TIME program,
where she works with each department to integrate technology into the

curriculum; she has also worked to encourage the use of online test
preparation and of SMART technologies; and
WHEREAS, Through her initiative, Anne Mulligan introduced Bishop Kear-
ney to MSG Varsity's "The Challenge," an academic trivia game sponsored
by Cablevision's "Power to Learn"; each year, she and other members of
the faculty, along with the Assistant Principal for Academics, work
closely with students to prepare them for these competitions; and
WHEREAS, In addition to working with "The Challenge" team, Dr. Mulli-
gan also moderates the Computer Club and, in her early career at Kear-
ney, she served as moderator of the JV and Varsity Basketball teams; and
WHEREAS, Anne Mulligan also serves on the faculty of St. Joseph's
College where she teaches the methods course in secondary education for
future English teachers; here too, as at Kearney, she shares her passion
for learning with her students; and
WHEREAS, It is this same passion that inspires her to continue her own
interest in scholarly pursuits; she has been a participant in the summer
seminars for high school teachers at the New York Public Library's Cull-
man Center, participation which has been the springboard for her AP
English students to attend other workshops conducted at the library; and
WHEREAS, Educators such as Anne Mulligan make a tremendous contrib-
ution to the future of our State and nation, sharing her enthusiasm and
genuine love of literature, research, and education with her students
and inspiring generations of young people in their educational journeys
and helping to ensure their success in their future endeavors, whatever
they may be; and
WHEREAS, Anne Mulligan's induction into the Bishop Kearney High School
Hall of Fame is a well-deserved and fitting recognition of her achieve-
ments and contributions; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Anne Mulligan upon the occasion of her induction into the Bishop
Kearney High School Hall of Fame on March 5, 2010; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Anne Mulligan.
