LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Janet DiFiore upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the Westchester Region of Hadas-
sah on March 13, 2010

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to recognize and pay tribute to
those individuals of firm belief and commitment who have devoted their
purposeful lives to the service of faith and community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Janet DiFiore upon the occasion of her designation for special recogni-
tion by the Westchester Region of Hadassah at its Rollin' at the Ritz,
2010 Monte Carlo Gala, to be held on Saturday, March 13, 2010, at the
Ritz-Carlton Hotel, White Plains, New York; and
WHEREAS, A woman of singular distinction, Janet DiFiore has contin-
ually demonstrated extreme competence, extraordinary intelligence and
diligent leadership in her unwavering service to both her community and
profession and subsequently has been chosen for this most prestigious
honor; and
WHEREAS, Janet DiFiore has dedicated her career to public service as
both a former Judge and prosecutor in Westchester County; she served
more than 10 years as an Assistant District Attorney in Westchester
County, was elected as a Judge of the Westchester County Court in 1998,
and as Justice of the New York State Supreme Court in 2002; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her distinguished career, Janet DiFiore has
presided over hundreds of cases in the County Court, the Family Court
and the New York State Supreme Court, serving until May 2005, when she
resigned to run for District Attorney of Westchester County, the posi-
tion which she holds today; and
WHEREAS, District Attorney Janet DiFiore has held numerous positions
designed to promote the fair administration of justice including service
with Chief Judge Judith Kaye's Commission on the Future of Criminal
Indigent Defense Services, the Westchester County Domestic Violence
Council, and the Westchester Holocaust Commission's Juvenile Offender
Program; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Janet DiFiore has lectured in New York and
abroad on domestic violence and the effects of domestic violence on
children; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Westchester County, Janet DiFiore
served on the Boards and in leadership positions with numerous profes-
sional, civic and local school organizations including the Westchester
Women's Bar Association, the Westchester Children's Museum, the Pace
University School of Law Board of Visitors and most recently as a member
of the Board of The Holocaust and Human Rights Education Center of West-
chester; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Janet DiFiore has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Dennis, and their
three children, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and
rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Janet DiFiore has displayed through-
out her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Janet DiFiore upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Westchester Region of Hadassah on March 13, 2010; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Janet DiFiore.
