LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Marist College upon the occasion of
receiving the 2010 Fundamental Principle Award from the American Red
Cross of Dutchess County on March 18, 2010

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to recognize the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who devote themselves to the welfare of the commu-
nity and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Marist College upon the occasion of receiving the 2010 Fundamental Prin-
ciple Award from the American Red Cross of Dutchess County; and
WHEREAS, The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization, led by
volunteers, that provides relief to victims of disasters and helps
people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies; and
WHEREAS, Each year, the American Red Cross of Dutchess County honors
those organizations and individuals who embody the fundamental spirit
and principles of the Red Cross; and
WHEREAS, Marist College will be recognized by the American Red Cross
of Dutchess County at its 100th Anniversary Red Tie Event to be held on
Thursday, March 18, 2010, at The Grandview, Poughkeepsie, New York; and
WHEREAS, Throughout its distinguished history, Marist College has
devoted itself to the community and through its efforts it has greatly
improved the quality of life for countless individuals; and
WHEREAS, For many years, Marist College has had a consistent intern
exchange with the American Red Cross of Dutchess County, along with
numerous Blood Drives sponsored by on-campus clubs; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Marist College faculty members have extended
their academic outreach into the community through innovative programs
offered by the Center for Corporate and Professional Education; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, the largest club at Marist College, Campus
Ministry, provides several community service projects; City Plunge
offers an opportunity for students to live and work as a community in
cooperation with an inner-city organization; Hunger Awareness Month
helps to fight hunger locally and internationally; the Giving Tree
Project donates holiday gifts to 25 local families in need; Global
Outreach trips help those in need in countries throughout the world; and
Weekly Service where students serve each week in local schools, social
agencies and through other facets of volunteerism; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
recognize Marist College, for its unwavering commitment to the citizens
of the region, as it provides an uncompromising standard of excellence
in the delivery of superlative community service; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Marist College upon the occasion of receiving the 2010 Fundamen-
tal Principle Award from the American Red Cross of Dutchess County on
March 18, 2010; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Marist College.
