LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Mary Zissler-Lynch upon the occasion of
her induction into the Bishop Kearney High School Hall of Fame on March
6, 2009

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend individuals who have distinguished themselves in their chosen
field of endeavor, in their community, or through a lifetime of good
citizenship; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to
commend Mary Zissler-Lynch upon the occasion of her induction into the
Bishop Kearney High School Hall of Fame at the school's Hall of Fame
Dinner Dance, to be held at Sirico's Caterers in Brooklyn on March 6,
2009; and
WHEREAS, Bishop Kearney High School, Brooklyn, New York, has a proud
tradition of a strong educational program, founded in faith and encour-
aging personal and educational development, coupled with commitment to
faith and to engaged citizenship; and
WHEREAS, The Bishop Kearney High School Hall of Fame honors outstand-
ing members of the Bishop Kearney family and community who exemplify and
support Kearney's mission to educate young women and whose lives and
accomplishments exemplify the tenets of the school; and
WHEREAS, Mary Zissler-Lynch, Principal of Public School 194, the Raoul
Wallenberg School, truly merits such recognition; and
WHEREAS, Mary Zissler-Lynch, the only daughter among Christopher and
Marie Zissler's six children, was born and educated in Brooklyn and has
worked there her entire life as well; and
WHEREAS, After her graduation from Bishop Kearney High School in 1972,
she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication and education from
Hunter College of The City University of New York in 1976, a master's
degree in education with a specialization in reading for grades K-12
from Fordham University in 1981, and an Advanced Certificate in Adminis-
tration and Supervision from City University's Brooklyn College in 1998;
and
WHEREAS, Mary Zissler-Lynch's career as a dedicated and distinguished
educator includes six years as a teacher of 7th and 1st grade students
at Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Brooklyn followed by three years
teaching in P. S. 105 in District 20; and
WHEREAS, Then, while taking time to raise her children and care for
her family, Mary Zissler-Lynch worked for five years as a religion
teacher in the catechetical program of Our Lady of Perpetual Help
Parish, after which she resumed her career, teaching writing and library
in the primary grades at P. S. 193 in District 22 for seven years; and
WHEREAS, In 1999, she was named Assistant Principal of Brooklyn's P.S.
194, the Raoul Wallenberg School, and for the past seven years, has
served ably and impressively as the Principal of the school; and
WHEREAS, Mary Zissler-Lynch has devoted her entire professional life
to the education of New York City's children, 20 years as a teacher,
Assistant Principal and Principal in the city's public schools, and six
years as a primary grade teacher in the parochial schools of the Diocese
of Brooklyn; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband of 31 years, Kevin
Lynch, and their children, Kevin Michael and Kristen, all of whom feel
privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her accomplishments;
and

WHEREAS, Mary Zissler-Lynch's induction into the Bishop Kearney High
School Hall of Fame is a well-deserved and fitting recognition of her
achievements and contributions; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Mary Zissler-Lynch upon the occasion of her induction into the
Bishop Kearney High School Hall of Fame on March 6, 2009; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mary Zissler-Lynch.
