LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Joseph Braganza upon the occasion of his
designation as the recipient of the Bishop Ford Central Catholic High
School's Brother Alphonsus Maher, OSF Humanitarian Award on April 28,
2010

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend individuals who have distinguished themselves in their chosen
field of endeavor, in their community, or through a lifetime of good
citizenship; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Joseph Braganza upon the occasion of his designation as the recipient of
the Bishop Ford Central Catholic High School's 2010 Brother Alphonsus
Maher, OSF Humanitarian Award; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Braganza will be honored at the school's 2010 Charter
Dinner, to be held at the Grand Ballroom at the Dyker Beach Golf Course
in Brooklyn on Wednesday, April 28, 2010; and
WHEREAS, Bishop Ford Central Catholic High School, Brooklyn, New York,
has a proud tradition of a strong educational program, founded in faith
and encouraging personal and educational development, coupled with
commitment to faith and to engaged citizenship; and
WHEREAS, At its annual Charter Dinner the Bishop Ford Central Catholic
High School honors outstanding members of the Bishop Ford family and
community who exemplify and support Bishop Ford's mission to educate
young men and women and whose lives and accomplishments exemplify the
tenets of the school; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Braganza is the epitome of a Franciscan educator and
truly merits the high honor of receiving the Brother Alphonsus Maher,
OSF Humanitarian Award; and
WHEREAS, A teacher at Bishop Ford for 35 years and currently Chairman
of the school's Math Department, Joseph Braganza works full-time at
Bishop Ford and then, every afternoon, begins his evening shift at Luth-
eran Medical Center, where he is a paramedic; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Braganza, in addition, spends the weekends volunteer-
ing at several shelters helping abused women; and
WHEREAS, The son of Jerry and Azy Braganza, Joseph Braganza lives in
Marine Park with his wife Jane and their three daughters, all of whom
are Bishop Ford graduates, Barbara, Class of 1998; Joanne, Class of
2001; and Amie, also Class of 2001, and all of whom are proud to be part
of his life and rejoice in his many accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Braganza's designation as the recipient of the Brother
Alphonsus Maher, OSF Humanitarian Award is a well-deserved and fitting
recognition of his achievements and contributions; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Joseph Braganza upon the occasion of his designation as the recip-
ient of the Bishop Ford Central Catholic High School's Brother Alphonsus
Maher, OSF Humanitarian Award on April 28, 2010; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joseph Braganza.
