LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Mona R. Rieger upon the occasion of
her designation for special recognition by Temple Beth Jacob on May 2,
2010

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to recognize and pay tribute to
those individuals of firm belief and commitment who have devoted their
purposeful lives to the service of faith and community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Mona R. Rieger upon the occasion of her designation for special recogni-
tion by Temple Beth Jacob on Sunday, May 2, 2010; and
WHEREAS, A woman of singular distinction, Mona R. Rieger has contin-
ually demonstrated extreme competence, extraordinary intelligence and
diligent leadership in her unwavering service to Temple Beth Jacob and
her community; and
WHEREAS, A current Board member, Mona R. Rieger has served Temple Beth
Jacob in numerous capacities throughout the years; she has held the
positions of President, 2004-2007; Religious School Principal,
1999-2001; and Religious and Hebrew School Teacher, 1989-1998; she has
also co-chaired the Gift Shop; and
WHEREAS, Mona R. Rieger is a third generation Life Member of the
Hadassah; she is the founder and First President of the Noar Chapter of
Newburgh; she was also a member of the Hadassah National Task Force on
Young Judaea and in 1998, she became a Hadassah Founder; and
WHEREAS, Mona R. Rieger has been a member of the Board of Directors of
the Jewish Federation of Greater Orange County since 1979 and has served
on its Executive Committee for 23 years; she is also the current Chair
of the Family Life Education Allocation Committee; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Mona R. Rieger has served as the Federation's
Campaign Chair, during which time she instituted combined Super
Sunday/Israel Expo; while serving as its President, she created Mitzvah
Day; and
WHEREAS, Mona R. Rieger is also the past Chair of the Women's Division
and has been a member on numerous committees including Allocations,
Education, Campaign Cabinet and Super Sunday; she is a Columnist for the
WE ARE ONE NEWSPAPER and was a member of the Northeast Region UJA
Women's Cabinet; she was designated a Lion of Judah in 1993 and a Ruby
Lion of Judah in 2003; and
WHEREAS, Since 1979, Mona R. Rieger has served as a Board member for
numerous community organizations including: NJCC, Orange County Hebrew
Day School, Jewish Family Services, State of Israel Bonds, and Literacy
Volunteers of America Eastern Orange County; she has also served on St.
Luke's Hospital Ball Committee, Orange County Coalition For Choice,
Planned Parenthood Annual Fundraiser Committee, and Newburgh Free Acade-
my Compact for Learning Committee; today, she is the Secretary and
founding member of Cub's Place; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of her efforts of in-depth magnitude, Mona R.
Rieger has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades; she has
received the UJA Young Leadership Award, the Hadassah National Leader-
ship Award, State of Israel Bonds Medal of Peace and the
Kipnis-Wilson/Friedland Award from UJC National Women's Philanthropy;
she has also been designated an Outstanding Young Woman of America and
the Noar Hadassah "Woman of the Year"; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Mona R. Rieger has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and

WHEREAS, Mona R. Rieger earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from
Beaver College, Glenside, Pennsylvania, in 1975; she graduated Cum Laude
and was a member of the Lambda Delta Alpha (Academic Honor Society) and
Psi Chi (National Psychology Honor Society); and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Ian, their chil-
dren, Allyson (Mathew), Caroline (Michael), and Daniel, as well as their
grandchildren, Marcus and Miles, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Mona R. Rieger has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Mona R. Rieger upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by Temple Beth Jacob; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mona R. Rieger.
