LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the Don
Bosco Community Center of Port Chester, New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across the great State
of New York are reflective of certain exemplary institutions whose
purpose is dedicated to serving the community and the needs of its citi-
zenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 80th Anniversary of the Don Bosco Community Center of Port
Chester, New York; and
WHEREAS, In 1928, the Don Bosco Community Center was established by
the parishioners of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, the Salesians of St.
John Bosco and the Italian community of Port Chester as a social, recre-
ational, and educational center for the growing immigrant community; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, the Don Bosco Community Center has trans-
formed itself to meet the needs of the local neighborhood and the Port
Chester/Sound Shore community; today, it offers multi-lingual youth and
adult social/support services to the community-at-large without regard
to sex, race, and religion, and meeting rooms and recreational spaces
are available for community and/or neighborhood events and activities;
and
WHEREAS, In addition, the Don Bosco Community Center houses numerous
programs, including the Don Bosco Boys & Girls Club - the Salesian
Oratory, the Don Bosco Kids' Cafe Food Program, the Holy Rosary Soup
Kitchen, the Holy Rosary Food Pantry, the Holy Rosary Clothing Open
Closet, the Port Chester Day Laborers' Center, the Inter-faith ESL
(English as a Second Language) Program, the Alma Solana Dance Troupe,
the Westchester Tae Kwon Do Club and the Salesian Summer Daze Day Camp;
and
WHEREAS, The success enjoyed by the Don Bosco Community Center is in
direct correlation to the efforts of the many individuals who have
supported its development over the years; and
WHEREAS, Equally commendable are the superbly-skilled staff at the Don
Bosco Community Center, whose involvement is and has always been charac-
terized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an
uncompromising standard of excellence in all of their efforts on behalf
of the institution and the population it serves; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when insti-
tutions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Don Bosco Community Center of
Port Chester, New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Don Bosco Community Center of Port Chester, New York.
