LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Colonel Glenn R. Marchi of the New York
Army National Guard upon the occasion of his retirement after many years
of distinguished military service

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to honor and acknowledge those
individuals whose professional lives, military service and civic endeav-
ors serve to enhance the stature of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Members and former members of the Armed Services from the
State of New York, who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in
which this country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preserva-
tion of peace in peace time, deserve a special salute from this Legisla-
tive Body; and
WHEREAS, For the past 35 years, Colonel Glenn R. Marchi of the New
York Army National Guard rendered faithful, conscientious and valuable
military service to both the Nation and New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Colonel Glenn R. Marchi of the New York Army National Guard upon the
occasion of his retirement after many years of distinguished military
service; this auspicious occasion will be celebrated on Saturday, May
15, 2010, at the West Point Club at the United States Military Academy
in West Point, New York; and
WHEREAS, Assigned to Joint Force Headquarters, New York Army National
Guard, Latham, New York, as Director of the Joint Exercise Control
Group, Colonel Glenn R. Marchi is responsible for training, exercising
and evaluating members of the New York National Guard's six designated
Joint Task Force headquarters in order to improve state emergency
response for defense support to civil authorities; and
WHEREAS, Colonel Glenn R. Marchi was a first responder following the
September 11, 2001, World Trade Center terrorist attack in New York City
and served as the S2/3 Intelligence/Operations Officer for the 107th
Corp Support Group, 53rd Troop Command coordinating security and recov-
ery operations; and
WHEREAS, In 2004, Colonel Glenn R. Marchi was deployed to support
Operation Iraqi Freedom as Commander of 500 soldiers in the 642nd
Aviation Support Battalion, providing aviation logistics to the 42nd
Infantry Division; as Chief of the 53rd Headquarters Detachment Army
Liaison Team, he prepared the unit for their second deployment in
support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2009; and
WHEREAS, Commissioned in 1980 through Officer Candidate School at the
Pennsylvania National Guard Military Academy, Colonel Glenn R. Marchi
served five years as an enlisted soldier from private to staff sergeant
in the U.S. Army with the 503rd Military Police Company, 3rd Armored
Division stationed in Germany, and later in the 28th Infantry Division;
and
WHEREAS, Awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in
Iraq, Colonel Glenn R. Marchi is a graduate of the U.S. Army War
College, and has a Ph.D. in Information Science from the State Universi-
ty of New York at Albany; and
WHEREAS, In his civilian career, Colonel Glenn R. Marchi is the Direc-
tor of Operations in Corporate Relations for Diageo in Norwalk, Connec-
ticut; he also teaches college courses as an Adjunct Professor at the
University of Connecticut; and
WHEREAS, Colonel Glenn R. Marchi resides in Hopewell Junction, New
York, with his wife, Lynn, and three children, Justin, Lucas and Serena;
and

WHEREAS, In all his official acts, Colonel Glenn R. Marchi was
governed by a sense of loyalty, duty and honor, that allowed him to be a
natural leader; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his extraordinary and outstanding military,
professional, and civilian careers, Colonel Glenn R. Marchi has earned
the admiration, esteem and affection of his friends, family and
colleagues; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended and
thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and for
their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Colonel Glenn R. Marchi of the New York Army National Guard upon
the occasion of his retirement after many years of distinguished mili-
tary service; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
