LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Mr. and Mrs. Tom Struzzieri upon the
occasion of their designation for special recognition by the Ulster
Literacy Association

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors and
community service are an example and inspiration to their colleagues,
friends, and family; and
WHEREAS, Tom and Jane Struzzieri have given not only of their time and
energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leadership, and
consequently have been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Mr.
and Mrs. Tom Struzzieri upon the occasion of their designation for
special recognition by the Ulster Literacy Association; this auspicious
occasion will be celebrated at the Association's Third Annual Dinner,
"Cherishing Our Champions," to be held on Friday, May 14, 2010, at the
Wiltwyck Country Club in Kingston, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Ulster Literacy Association (ULA) provides Ulster County
residents with the tools they need to read, write, and speak the English
language; it has provided literacy tutoring for adults since 1981; and
WHEREAS, The ULA community consists of tutors and students, as well as
volunteers and professional staff, who are dedicated to enriching the
lives of Ulster County residents through the gift of literacy; tutoring
is provided on a one-to-one basis or in a small group setting; all
tutoring is provided free of charge; and
WHEREAS, More than 4,000 students have benefited from the services of
ULA; students come from a variety of backgrounds: some are lifelong
Ulster County residents while others immigrated to the United States
from another country; and
WHEREAS, Through the efficacy of ULA's efforts, students have secured
better jobs, started their own businesses and pursued vocational train-
ing as nurses, home-health companions, mechanics, and computer techni-
cians; and
WHEREAS, Over the last five years,Tom Struzzieri has been an exceed-
ingly generous contributor to ULA; Jane Struzzieri has been a skilled
and energetic volunteer literacy tutor for the organization; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Tom and Jane Struzzieri have supported many
other human service agencies in Ulster County, including the United Way
and FAMILY of Woodstock, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, Through their example, Tom and Jane Struzzieri have inspired
their children, friends and other community members to get involved and
support the many noble organizations that help the people of Ulster
County; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his many philanthropic efforts, Tom Struzzieri
is the President and Chief Executive Officer of HITS, Inc., the largest
hunter/jumper horse show management company in the United States; it is
headquartered in Saugerties, New York, where it employs nearly 40 Ulster
County residents, and brings thousands of visitors to Ulster County,
creating a surge of economic resources for the businesses and people of
the county; and
WHEREAS, Tom and Jane Struzzieri live in Saugerties, New York, with
their three children, Pia, Samantha, and Tommy Z; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Tom and Jane Struzzieri have displayed
throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Mr. and Mrs. Torn Struzzieri upon the occasion of their desig-
nation for special recognition by the Ulster Literacy Association; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Struzzieri, HITS, Inc., 319 Main Street,
Saugerties, New York 12477.
