LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Lon Tytell upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow Recognition
Award by the Warwick Lions Club

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those renowned organizations which devote their energy,
resources and thoughtful care to improving the quality of life in their
communities and whose endeavors have faithfully served the welfare of
the citizens of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Lon Tytell upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Melvin Jones Fellow Recognition Award by the Warwick Lions Club; this
auspicious occasion will be celebrated at a special awards dinner to be
held on Thursday, May 20, 2010; and
WHEREAS, The Warwick Lions Club is part of the largest service organ-
ization in the world; Lions Club International is an organization deeply
committed to meeting the challenges of public service; and
WHEREAS, The goal of the Warwick Lions Club and the entire Lions
Organization is to evaluate the needs within the community, without
regard to politics, religion or race, and to support humanitarian
projects in response to those needs; and
WHEREAS, The Melvin Jones Fellow Recognition Award is the Lions Club
International Foundation's highest honor; it is given in recognition of
commitment to humanitarian service; and
WHEREAS, A member of the Warwick Lions Club for almost 30 years, and
its President for two terms, Lon Tytell also served as the Secretary of
the Club for 13 years and as a member of the Board for 20 years; and
WHEREAS, Previously, Lon Tytell received the Robert J. Uplinger
Distinguished Service Award for exemplary service, the highest award
conferred in Lions Multiple District 20; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Lon Tytell has served on numerous community
volunteer committees and organizations, including: as Vice President of
the Orange County Sight and Hearing Committee; Vice President, Presi-
dent, District and Regional Director of the Warwick Jaycees; and for
fundraisers and walkathons to benefit St. Anthony Community Hospital and
the Community Center; and
WHEREAS, A teacher for 35 years in the Warwick Valley Central School
District prior to his retirement, Lon Tytell served as a member of the
Warwick Valley Teachers Association Scholarship Committee for 30 years,
and represented the Warwick District in the Orange-Ulster BOCES Regional
Social Studies project for Grade 4 that resulted in the textbook, ORANGE
COUNTY: A JOURNEY THROUGH TIME; and
WHEREAS, Lon Tytell served 23 years in the United States Army Reserve
and retired as a Sergeant First Class; and
WHEREAS, Individuals of singular distinction in leadership positions
in exemplary organizations like the Lions Club merit the grateful praise
of the community and of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Lon Tytell has displayed throughout
his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Lon Tytell upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-

ent of the Melvin Jones Fellow Recognition Award by the Warwick Lions
Club; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lon Tytell.
