LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Helen Davis upon the occasion of her
retirement after many distinguished years as an educator

WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled; its
history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its educa-
tional professionals and the students they inspire; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of those outstanding
educational leaders, whose dedication and achievements have been instru-
mental in developing character and academic excellence in the young
people of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Helen Davis upon the occasion of her retirement after many years of
dedicated service in education; a retirement party will be held in her
honor on Friday, May 14, 2010, The Friars Table, Buffalo, New York; and
WHEREAS, Helen Davis received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business
Education from Hampton University, Hampton, Virginia, and an M.Ed. from
Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia; and
WHEREAS, This inspirational teacher has been with the Buffalo Board of
Education since 1999; presently, Helen Davis teaches Business in the
International Studies Program at Bennett High School, and has also
taught at Seneca Vocational High School and Grover Cleveland High
School; and
WHEREAS, Because Helen Davis traveled with her husband while he was a
member of the United States Army, she has taught in many locations in
the United States and abroad, including cities in Virginia, Georgia,
Illinois, Maryland, Louisiana and in Germany; her experience encompasses
teaching at the high school and the community college level; and
WHEREAS, Helen Davis is a member of the Orchard Park Chorale, Alpha
Kappa Alpha Society, the Buffalo Investment Club and a member of the
Board of Directors for the Botanical Gardens; and
WHEREAS, In addition, she is a congregant of St. Bernadette Roman
Catholic Church and serves as a Eucharistic Minister for the homebound;
and
WHEREAS, Educators like Helen Davis provide a tremendous service to
the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of young
people in their educational journeys and ensuring their success in their
future years; and
WHEREAS, Helen Davis has clearly had an enduring impact on the youth
of Buffalo, as well as on the community-at-large, and accordingly merits
recognition and applause for her impressive dedication to others; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Felton L. Davis
who is Assistant Council Commissioner for recruiting and who also serves
as a Unit Commander for the Boy Scouts of America, and their two daugh-
ters, Tonya and Nicole, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her
life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our schools;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Helen Davis upon the occasion of her retirement after many years
of dedicated service in education, and for her significant contributions
to education in New York State; and to wish her continued success in all
her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Helen Davis.
