LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Dr. Gila Leiter, M.D., upon the occa-
sion of her designation by Ohr Naava as the recipient of a Woman of
Valor Award at its 2nd Annual Dinner on February 24, 2009
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the quality and
character of life in the Empire State are greatly enriched by the faith-
ful and generous service of those who distinguish themselves in their
profession and in service to their faith, heritage and community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to
commend Dr. Gila Leiter, M.D., upon the occasion of her designation by
Ohr Naava as the recipient of a Jewish Woman of Valor Award at its 2nd
Annual Dinner, to be held at Grand Prospect Hall in Brooklyn, New York,
on February 24, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Ohr Naava, the Women's Torah Center, located at 2201 East
23rd Street in Brooklyn, is a unique program designed for women ages 17
through 120 who are interested in furthering their Torah experience; and
WHEREAS, Founded in loving memory of Naava Katlowitz, Ohr Naava's
program, under the leadership of Rabbi Zachariah Wallerstein, offers a
wide variety of Torah classes as well as Yoga, Dance, Kickboxing and
Art, and such chessed activities as challah baking, cooking, and others
which benefit the community; and
WHEREAS, Ohr Naava brings together girls who have just returned from
studying in Israel, college students seeking a weekly moment of inspira-
tion, and most of all, Jewish women of different backgrounds who share a
common goal - to grow and change; and
WHEREAS, In honoring Dr. Gila Leiter, M.D., who has delivered thou-
sands of babies and taken care of multiple generations of women and is
an Assistant Clinical Professor at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, as
well as a frequent lecturer on health and Jewish law, as a Woman of
Valor, Ohr Naava proudly pays tribute to a woman who has distinguished
herself in her profession and in service to her family, faith and commu-
nity; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Gila Leiter, M.D., truly exemplifies a Woman of Valor and
provides an inspiring role model for the Women of Valor of the future;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Dr. Gila Leiter, M.D., upon the occasion of her designation by
Ohr Naava as the recipient of a distinguished Jewish Woman of Valor
Award at its 2nd Annual Dinner on February 24, 2009; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Gila Leiter, M.D.
