LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Zonta Club of Cheektowaga-Lan-
caster upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of the 2010
Community Service of the Year Award by the Cheektowaga Chamber of
Commerce

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are enhanced by the concerned and dedicated efforts of individuals and
organizations that generously contribute to the welfare of the community
and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late the Zonta Club of Cheektowaga-Lancaster upon the occasion of its
designation as recipient of the 2010 Community Service of the Year Award
by the Cheektowaga Chamber of Commerce; this auspicious occasion will be
celebrated on Thursday, June 10, 2010, at the Chamber's Awards Dinner to
be held at the Millennium Hotel Buffalo in Buffalo, New York; and
WHEREAS, Zonta is a worldwide service organization of executives in
business and the professions working to improve the legal, political,
and economic status of women; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1969, the Zonta Club of Cheektowaga-Lancaster
emulates the mission of Zonta International making a positive impact on
the community; the members generously give of their time and talent
reaching a diversified community with diversified needs; and
WHEREAS, The Zonta Club of Cheektowaga-Lancaster has been active in
sponsoring and organizing Z Clubs for high school students; with the
goal of preparing youth to become future leaders through service, these
Z Club members have the opportunity to learn valuable communication
skills as well as gain leadership experience through their service
projects in the secondary school setting; and
WHEREAS, The Zonta Club of Cheektowaga-Lancaster has had a positive
impact on both the Cheektowaga and Lancaster communities in many ways
including: Relay for Life, Erie County Family Justice Center, Response
to Love Center, Haven House, Cornerstone Manor, Canine Helpers, Erie
County Home and Infirmary and Adopt A Highway; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the Zonta Club of Cheektowaga-Lancaster sponsors
four scholarships each year; two go to high school seniors, one to a
woman working in public affairs, and one to a woman who desires to
return to school to pursue a career; and
WHEREAS, The Zonta Club of Cheektowaga-Lancaster positively impacts
all of Western New York and beyond; all who are touched by this exem-
plary organization seek to "pay it forward" in their own communities;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Zonta Club of Cheektowaga-Lancaster upon the occasion
of its designation as recipient of the 2010 Community Service of the
Year Award by the Cheektowaga Chamber of Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Zonta Club of Cheektowaga-Lancaster.
