LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Ellen Bemak upon the occasion of her
designation by Young Israel of Flatbush as the recipient of a Ayshet
Chayil Award at its 88th Anniversary Dinner on June 6, 2010

WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in the Empire State are
greatly enriched by the faithful and generous service of those who
devote themselves to endeavors of family, faith, and community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend individuals of such magnanimous conduct and bearing who demon-
strate a deep and continuing concern for others, and in so doing,
inspire others to do the same; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Ellen Bemak upon the occasion of her designation by Young Israel of
Flatbush as the recipient of a Ayshet Chayil Award at its 88th Anniver-
sary Dinner, to be held at the Kings Terrace in Brooklyn on Sunday, June
6, 2010; and
WHEREAS, In honoring Ellen Bemak, Young Israel of Flatbush recognizes
and pays fitting tribute to her for her many years of selfless devotion
and dedicated service to the synagogue and the greater Jewish community;
and
WHEREAS, Just as Jerusalem has been the heart and soul of the Jewish
people for more than 3,000 years, so too has the Sisterhood been the
lifeblood of Young Israel of Flatbush, its members working diligently
and unassumingly to meet the needs of the synagogue with enduring dedi-
cation; and
WHEREAS, Longtime member of Young Israel of Flatbush, Ellen Bemak has
served with distinction as Co-president of its Sisterhood and her self-
less, untiring efforts and generosity of spirit have nourished and
enriched the character and richness of synagogue life, helping to
sustain its traditions and ensuring its legacy and values; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the course of her service to Young Israel of Flat-
bush, one of New York City's oldest and most prominent synagogues, and
her community, Ellen Bemak has exhibited uncommon valor and wisdom; and
WHEREAS, Her involvement and leadership have been characterized by an
impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising
standard of excellence in all her endeavors on behalf of the synagogue,
Young Israel, and her community; and
WHEREAS, In recognizing Ellen Bemak for her many years of inspira-
tional and devoted service to her faith and community, Young Israel of
Flatbush proudly honors a woman who exemplifies the highest aims and
ideals of the Young Israel movement: adherence to Torah and mitzvot,
maintenance of the traditions of the Jewish people, both at home and in
the land of Israel, and commitment to their community and to American
society; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to extend its highest commen-
dation to Ellen Bemak for her dedication and commitment to her community
and her heritage; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Ellen Bemak upon the occasion of her designation by Young Israel
of Flatbush as the recipient of a Ayshet Chayil Award at its 88th Anni-
versary Dinner on June 6, 2010; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ellen Bemak.
