LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Coach Brian Beaury of the College
of Saint Rose upon the occasion of his 500th career victory

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize those individuals within our midst who have contributed great-
ly to the quality of our lives by providing exceptional leadership and
commitment to our youth; and
WHEREAS, It is acknowledged that athletic competition enhances the
moral and physical development of the young people of this State,
preparing them for the future by instilling in them the value of team-
work, encouraging a standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for
success and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and,
further, that excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, all
of which actions are nurtured by dedicated coaching; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Coach Brian Beaury of the College of Saint Rose upon the occasion
of his 500th career victory; and
WHEREAS, On February 4, 2009, Coach Brian Beaury became the ninth
active head basketball coach, and 34th overall, at the NCAA Division II
level, to ascend to the 500-win plateau when his College of Saint Rose
team defeated Northeast-10 Conference rival St. Michael's 70-52; and
WHEREAS, Leading the College of Saint Rose to 11 NCAA Tournament
appearances within the past 17 years, Coach Brian Beaury compiled a
500-200 career record on his way to this outstanding achievement; he is
in his 23rd season of coaching at his alma mater, The College of Saint
Rose in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Steadfastly solidifying himself as an outstanding basketball
coach, Brian Beaury has developed a program at the College of Saint Rose
that garners the utmost respect from every corner and from every level
of collegiate basketball; he has left an indelible impression on all the
young men he has coached and provided the College of Saint Rose with
well-deserved national recognition; and
WHEREAS, Coach Brian Beaury has an uncanny ability to instill and
impart his knowledge of the game to his players; his teams have won an
average of more than 24 games per year during the last 13 seasons and
have posted 20 wins during nine of those seasons; he has never had a
losing season while at Saint Rose; and
WHEREAS, Earning Coach of the Year plaudits on five separate occa-
sions, including Eastern Basketball's 1998 small college Coach of the
Year, Brian Beaury was nominated for national Coach of the Year in 1989;
he stands ninth among the nation's most successful NCAA Division II
coaches in winning percentage; and
WHEREAS, A native of Queens, New York, Brian Beaury played high school
basketball at St. Agnes, before heading to the College of Saint Rose
where he was a four-year varsity letter winner; a three time captain of
the team, he was a two-time All-Conference selection and the team's most
valuable player in his senior year; he ranks among the school's top-10
career leaders in both assists and steals; and
WHEREAS, Entering the college coaching ranks at the age of 21 as an
assistant at the Junior College of Albany, Brian Beaury returned to
coach at his alma mater in 1984 and became its second head coach in
1986; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of the College of Saint Rose 1996 Distinguished
Alumni Award, Brian Beaury was active as the Co-Chair of Saint Rose's

capital campaign, Advancing The Saint Rose Difference, marking the
second time he has co-chaired this effort during his tenure; and
WHEREAS, The founder of the Saint Rose Summer Sports Academy, Brian
Beaury is also the founder of the New York State Basketball Coaches
Association Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, Coach Brian Beaury holds a bachelor's degree in Business
Administration and a master's degree in Education from Saint Rose, and
is pursuing an M.B.A. degree at the College; and
WHEREAS, Residing in Cohoes, New York, Coach Brian Beaury and his
wife, the former Mary Ann Grennon, are the proud parents of three chil-
dren, Alexandra, Brian, and Benjamin; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Coach Brian Beaury of the College of Saint Rose upon the
occasion of his 500th career victory; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to College of Saint Rose Basketball Coach Brian Beaury.
