LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Jack Perel upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Chesed Award by Congregation Shaarey
Israel in Montebello, New York
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors and
community service are an example and inspiration to their colleagues,
friends and family; and
WHEREAS, Jack Perel has given not only of his time and energies but
also of his competence, intelligence and leadership, and consequently
has been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Jack
Perel upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Chesed
Award by Congregation Shaarey Israel in Montebello, New York; this
auspicious occasion will be celebrated at the Congregation's Annual
Journal Dinner Dance, to be held on Sunday, June 6, 2010; and
WHEREAS, Born in Warsaw, Poland, in 1947, Jack Perel emigrated to the
United States in 1962; he attended DeWitt Clinton High School and
received his B.A. and M.A. from Queens College; he also earned a M.A.
from Pace University; and
WHEREAS, Retired in 2004, for 35 years Jack Perel worked in New York
City as a teacher and administrator; and
WHEREAS, In addition, for 12 years Jack Perel was the Principal of
Beth Am Temple Hebrew School; and
WHEREAS, Once President of Shaarey Thloh Congregation, Jack Perel is
currently a member of Congregation Shaarey Israel where he serves on the
Board of Trustees and is an active participant on numerous committees;
and
WHEREAS, Jack Perel has been a dedicated and tireless worker on behalf
of the Shaarey Israel family; and
WHEREAS, Married to the late Zelda Halpern in 1970, together Jack and
Zelda were the proud parents of two daughters, Zivah and Pamela; in
2006, Jack met Deborah Dann and they have enjoyed life together ever
since; and
WHEREAS, Jack Perel's hobbies are reading, racquetball, sport fishing,
motorcycles and the New York Jets; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Jack Perel has displayed throughout his
life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jack Perel upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Chesed Award by Congregation Shaarey Israel in Montebello, New York;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jack Perel.
