LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Emanuel Charles Apap,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Charles Apap of Carmel, New York died on January 1, 2009 at
the age of 98; and
WHEREAS, Born on December 21, 1910 in Malta, Europe, Charles Apap had
been a resident of New York since 1927; he married Josephine Spagna on
December 22, 1934, and they enjoyed more than 70 years of wedded bliss
before her death in 2008; and
WHEREAS, Charles Apap's first job in this country was as a painter's
apprentice; since that time, he founded his own family-based painting
and home maintenance contracting company; and
WHEREAS, A pillar of the Carmel area community, Charles Apap was a
charter member of the Lake Carmel Volunteer Fire Department and very
active at St. James the Apostle Parish, the Salvation Army and local
senior centers; and
WHEREAS, Charles Apap is survived by his seven children: Anthony and
wife Anna Frances; Mary Ann and husband Andrew; Rosalie; George and wife
Susan; Gloria and husband Dominick; Charles and wife Loraine; and Joy
and husband Jim; as well as his 23 grandchildren and 13 great grandchil-
dren, all of whom felt privileged to be a part of his life and rejoiced
in his many achievements; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit, imbued with a sense of
compassion, and comforted by a loving family, Charles Apap leaves behind
a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will remain as a
comforting memory to all he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Emanuel Charles Apap, distinguished citizen and
devoted member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Emanuel Charles Apap.
