LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Mitchell S. Pinsky, upon the occasion
of receiving the Men of Distinction Award on June 10, 2010

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Mitchell S. Pinsky has given not only of his time and ener-
gies but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and conse-
quently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Mitchell S.
Pinsky, upon the occasion of receiving the Men of Distinction Award, to
be celebrated on June 10, 2010, at the 3rd Annual Men of Distinction
Award Ceremony; and
WHEREAS, Mitch Pinsky was born and raised, throughout his formative
years, in Brooklyn; he grew up in a family that not only valued public
service, but served youngsters, as educators in New York City as well as
upstate New York; and
WHEREAS, Mitch Pinsky values public education and has attended or
worked in public schools throughout his continuing career both as a
student and educator; and
WHEREAS, As a student, Mitch Pinsky lived through decentralization and
came away with an understanding of the inherent challenges that faced
those involved within public education; this experience continues to
influence him in his approach to his career; and
WHEREAS, Mitch Pinsky ultimately found himself on a path that centered
on working with youngsters and adults in a variety of settings; these
include, but are not limited to, working as a houseparent in a group
home, drug counselor, teacher, district level administrator, assistant
principal, adjunct professor in the Educational Leadership Program at
CUNY Brooklyn, Regional Director of NYC Odyssey of the Mind program, and
as the proud principal of PS 115 in Brooklyn; and
WHEREAS, Selected as a Cahn Fellow, Mitch Pinsky takes great satisfac-
tion in the role he has played in raising the levels of students
achievement; he is also proud of his accomplishments in coaching youth
sports and developing a school community that promotes the growth of the
whole child; over a dozen school and district level supervisors have
been inspired by him as they have moved forward in their own careers;
and
WHEREAS, Mitchell Pinsky has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Mitchell Pinsky has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Mitchell Pinsky has displayed
throughout his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Mitchell S. Pinsky, upon the occasion of receiving the Men of
Distinction Award on June 10, 2010; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mitchell S. Pinsky.
