LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Community Singers of Queens upon
the occasion of celebrating its 50th Anniversary on June 13, 2010

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those musical organizations that have brought entertainment and
cultural enrichment to the citizens of the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Community Singers of Queens upon the occasion of celebrating its
50th Anniversary on Sunday, June 13, 2010, at Leonard's, Great Neck, New
York; and
WHEREAS, The Community Singers of Queens was formed on June 6, 1960,
for the purpose of developing a mixed choral organization and to attain
the highest possible standards of musical production as well as promot-
ing and fostering the appreciation, study and rendition of part music;
and
WHEREAS, The founding members were comprised of: Alexander Bohm,
Evelyn Bohm, Dorothy Bramm, Dudley Bramm, Helen Brunssen, Paul Brunssen,
Paul Caruso, Marilyn Chapman, Bruce Conrad, Harold Drinkwater, George
Mihan, Jr., Mary Patterson, Barbara Reynolds, Arthur Thompson, Frederick
Wiebke and Anabel White; and
WHEREAS, The Community Singers of Queens perform regular concerts in
December and May; they have also performed at numerous venues some of
which include: Carnegie Hall, Queensborough Community College, Lehman
College, Marble Collegiate Church, Queens Public Library, Schubert Soci-
ety, World's Fair in New York, Bowne Park Holiday Concert, Trinity Luth-
eran Church, Masonic Lodges and many others; and
WHEREAS, Throughout its distinguished history, The Community Singers
of Queens has been under the skilled direction of numerous Conductors
including: H. Thomas Miller (1960-1971); Joseph DelliCarri (1971-1985);
Florese Dattner (1979, 1985); William E. Randolph, Jr. (1985-1992); Mark
Miller (1992-1995); Steve Rosenhaus (1995-1997); Perry Townsend
(1997-2001); Jane Lawson (2002); Alfonso A. Roman (2002-2005); Ron Fex
(2005); Alfonso A. Roman (2006); Gregory Matthaey (2006-2007); Margaret
Abel (2007-2009); and Perry Townsend (2009-present); and
WHEREAS, The tremendous success of the Community Singers of Queens is
in direct correlation to the efforts of its conductors and members,
whose involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impres-
sive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard
of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the chorale and the popu-
lation it serves; and
WHEREAS, The arts, in whatever form depicted, are central to human
expression; they are truly a universal language and their contribution
to the development of friendship and understanding among all peoples
cannot be underestimated; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Community Singers of Queens upon the occasion of celebrating
its 50th Anniversary on June 13, 2010; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Community Singers of Queens.
