LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Barbara Ross Belin, A.S.I.D., upon the
occasion of her designation for special recognition by the Irondale
Ensemble Project on November 15, 2010
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to call attention to
individuals and organizations that devote their time and energies to the
cultural enrichment of the Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Barbara Ross Belin, A.S.I.D., upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by the Irondale Ensemble Project at its Awards Cere-
mony to be held on Monday, November 15, 2010; and
WHEREAS, In 1983, Jim Niesen, Terry Greiss and Barbara Mackenzie-Wood
created a theater company dedicated to the ongoing exploration of thea-
ter as an art form and a force for educational and social change; and
WHEREAS, Through the power of the Ensemble Project, Irondale creates
and presents theater, performance and education programs that challenge
traditional assumptions about art and help us to better understand
today's world; the Irondale Center, its theater, laboratory and class-
room, is a home for ensemble artists of all disciplines and cultures and
a resource for the community; and
WHEREAS, A woman of singular distinction, Barbara Ross Belin has
continually demonstrated extreme competence, extraordinary intelligence
and diligent leadership in her unwavering service to both the Irondale
Ensemble Project and the community; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Barbara Ross Belin
attended Pratt Institute where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree
in interior design; and
WHEREAS, Barbara Ross Belin was a full partner in Dexter Design until
1987; she then founded Barbara Hauben Ross Interior Design; today, the
firm provides interior design services to a wide roster of both residen-
tial and commercial clients with projects from Colorado to Florida to
California; and
WHEREAS, Well-known and highly-respected, Barbara Ross Belin's work
has been published in ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST, HOUSE BEAUTIFUL, VERANDA,
THE NEW YORK TIMES, INTERIOR DESIGN MAGAZINE and many others; she is
also a member of the American Society of Interior Designers; and
WHEREAS, Despite her busy professional life, Barbara Ross Belin has
been called upon to contribute her time and talents to countless civic
and charitable endeavors and has always given of herself unstintingly;
and
WHEREAS, Barbara Ross Belin is currently serving her 25th year as
President of the Board of Trustees of the Irondale Ensemble Project; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Barbara Ross Belin serves on the Board of the
Belin Blank Center for Gifted and Talented Children in Iowa City; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her two children and five step-
children, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and
rejoice in her achievements; she is also a proud and loving grandmother;
and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Barbara Ross Belin has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Barbara Ross Belin upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by the Irondale Ensemble Project on November 15,
2010; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Barbara Ross Belin.
