LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Woman of Distinction Rose E. Rodriguez
upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition in cele-
bration of Women's History Month 2009

WHEREAS, Women's History Month, celebrated each year in March, is a time
to reflect upon and pay tribute to the women of our State and Nation for
their contributions to their communities and their professions; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that women of every
economic, ethnic, and religious background have made significant
contributions to their community and to the State of New York, and it is
appropriate to recognize them and to publicly acknowledge their endeav-
ors which have enhanced the basic humanity among us all; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Woman of Distinction Rose E. Rodriguez upon the occasion of her desig-
nation for special recognition in celebration of Women's History Month
2009, at a special ceremony to be held on March 27, 2009, at the Bronx
Library Center, Bronx, New York; and
WHEREAS, Raised as a young Puerto Rican Woman in the South Bronx, Rose
E. Rodriguez has maintained a strong faith in society, however, her
experiences embedded a deep rooted belief that her community was in need
of change; and
WHEREAS, Therefore, Rose E. Rodriguez has pursued a road of public
service leading to her active involvement in grassroots community based
and political organizing with the goal of improving the "quality of
life" for all residents of this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Having already achieved much success throughout her extraor-
dinary career, Rose E. Rodriguez was most recently appointed as the New
York City Representative for the Commissioner of the New York State
Department of Labor; and
WHEREAS, In this capacity, Rose E. Rodriguez represents the Commis-
sioner's interest in all department activities within New York City
including dissemination of labor market information, worker protection
activities, and workforce and economic development; she is also respon-
sible for facilitating the resolution of issues related to employment
and the workforce; and
WHEREAS, Rose E. Rodriguez has been the recipient of numerous awards
and accolades for her extensive work in government and community
service; she earned her Juris Doctor degree, in May 1999, from Fordham
University School of Law, and was the recipient of the prestigious
Philip D. Reed Scholarship; she has served as a Stein Public Interest
Law Scholar and on the Fordham Urban Law Journal; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Rose E. Rodriguez obtained a Master's degree in
Political Management, in 1988, from the Graduate School of Political
Management; in 1983, she received her Bachelor of Science degree from
Fordham University College of Business Administration; she was the
recipient of several prestigious scholarships including the National
Hispanic Scholarship, United Federation of Teacher's Scholarship, and
the Mayor's Scholarship; and
WHEREAS, New York State is home to countless women, strong and color-
ful threads vital to the fabric of our rich heritage, who have and
continue to contribute to the advancement of our society; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when women of
such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our attention, they
should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of the great
State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Woman of Distinction Rose E. Rodriguez upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition in celebration of Women's History
Month 2009; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rose E. Rodriguez.
