LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Woman of Distinction Pamela Edwards
upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition in cele-
bration of Women's History Month 2009
WHEREAS, Women's History Month, celebrated each year in March, is a time
to reflect upon and pay tribute to the women of our State and Nation for
their contributions to their communities and their professions; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that women of every
economic, ethnic, and religious background have made significant
contributions to their community and to the State of New York, and it is
appropriate to recognize them and to publicly acknowledge their endeav-
ors which have enhanced the basic humanity among us all; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Woman of Distinction Pamela Edwards upon the occasion of her designation
for special recognition in celebration of Women's History Month 2009, at
a special ceremony to be held on March 27, 2009, at the Bronx Library
Center, Bronx, New York; and
WHEREAS, Driven by her life-long passion for education, her sincere
commitment to making the world a better place, and her tireless determi-
nation to do what is right for children, Pamela Edwards has not only
accepted challenging leadership assignments, she has actively sought and
embraced opportunities to serve school communities that require careful
attention, nurturing guidance, and expertise that gifted educators exem-
plify; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Pamela Edwards has demonstrated an
impressive record of improving and transforming struggling schools by
creating learning environments that truly support best practices for
teaching and learning; and
WHEREAS, Pamela Edwards began as a paraprofessional at P.S. 53, in
1989, and after three brief years, she was promoted and received a
teaching assignment at P.S. 53, where she remained for seven years; and
WHEREAS, An exemplary leader, Pamela Edwards began her administrative
tenure as an Assistant Principal at P.S. 55; after just two years, she
was selected as just the right person to save this lowest performing
school in New York City; her strong and wise leadership helped take this
school off the State's SURR (School Under Registration Review) after
three short, yet powerfully transforming years; and
WHEREAS, Pamela Edwards continued increasing her sphere of influence
as a Local Instructional Superintendent for two years and then accepted
another challenging assignment, as Principal of P.S. 79; and
WHEREAS, Under Pamela Edwards direction, her team's proposal to open a
new middle school, The Creston Academy for Responsibility and Excellence
(C.A.R.E.), has been approved and is slated to open in September 2009;
and
WHEREAS, Fueled by her enthusiasm, energy, and perseverance, Pamela
Edwards has inspired so many, whose lives have been unequivocally
touched and improved by her influence, compassion, knowledge, and hard
work; in much the same way that Pamela Edwards graciously gives credit
to her mother, Carlene Webster, for her accomplishments, thousands of
adults and children, over the years, realize the significant impact that
Pamela has had on their lives; and
WHEREAS, New York State is home to countless women, strong and color-
ful threads vital to the fabric of our rich heritage, who have and
continue to contribute to the advancement of our society; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when women of
such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our attention, they
should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of the great
State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Woman of Distinction Pamela Edwards upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition in celebration of Women's History
Month 2009; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Pamela Edwards.
