LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Jean Halahan of Middletown on
winning her 10th overall national racquetball championship

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding athletes who distinguish themselves through their excep-
tional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, The Women's Senior/Masters Racquetball Association (WSMRA) is
dedicated to promoting racquetball as a lifetime sport; its members are
women 35 and over who wish to compete on a high level while, at the same
time, have fun; and
WHEREAS, The WSMRA sponsors an annual tournament of self-refereed,
round robin play within age groups; the 21st Annual Women's
Senior/Masters Racquetball Association's National Championships were
held at the Lakeforest Sport and Health Club in Gaithersburg, Maryland
on January 15-17, 2010; and
WHEREAS, Despite playing with a torn meniscus in her left knee, Jean
Halahan, a Washingtonville High School teacher, proudly won her 10th
overall national championship in the age 40 group against five of the
top women players from across the country; and
WHEREAS, Her toughest match was against the number one seed, Lorraine
Galloway, who played on the Montenegro national team in the Interna-
tional World Championships; Jean Halahan came from behind in both games
to win the match 15-13, 15-13; and
WHEREAS, Jean Halahan now stands preeminent in her sport, having
demonstrated to the world and to herself, the ability and determination
to achieve her personal goals, setting an example of dedication and
commitment for others to follow and bringing honor to herself, her fami-
ly, her community and the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
celebrate the achievement of Jean Halahan in winning her 10th overall
national racquetball championship at the 21st Annual Women's
Senior/Masters Racquetball Association's National Championships held in
Gaithersburg, Maryland on January 15-17, 2010; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jean Halahan.
