LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Civil
Service Employees Association

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to publicly acknowl-
edge those organizations whose endeavors serve the best interests of the
workforce in the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Labor unions have played an essential role in ensuring the
prosperity, safety and liberty of workers in this great State and
Nation, and around the world; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the
100th Anniversary since a group of state employees formed the Associ-
ation of State Civil Service Employees on October 24, 1910; and
WHEREAS, CSEA's founding was the first known instance of state employ-
ees organizing; and
WHEREAS, 100 years later, the Civil Service Employees Association (as
the association was renamed in 1946), is one of the largest, most influ-
ential unions in the United States; and
WHEREAS, CSEA is New York's largest public employee union, represent-
ing 300,000 active and retired, public and private employees; and
WHEREAS, CSEA members are an integral part of every locality and
provide essential services throughout the state; and
WHEREAS, Today, CSEA members are the backbone of their communities,
supporting every kind of charitable cause, service organization and
community activity; and
WHEREAS, With a membership of dedicated employees, the record of the
Civil Service Employees Association in public service is one to be cele-
brated; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Civil Service Employees Associ-
ation; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Civil Service Employees Association.
