LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Ruby Monichan upon the occasion of being
named a Commended Student in the National Merit Scholarship Program

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
achieved outstanding educational success and serve as role models for
their peers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Ruby
Monichan upon the occasion of being named a Commended Student in the
National Merit Scholarship Program; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her high school career Ruby Monichan has garnered
numerous awards and accolades; she is a member of Key Club, Jazz Choir,
Chamber Orchestra, the Foreign Language Honor Society, the Science
National Honor Society, the National Senior Honor Society, the Math
Honor Society, Talented and Gifted, Global Links, Students Against
Destructive Decisions, Future Foreign Language Teachers of Tomorrow and
the Girls Varsity Badminton Team; and
WHEREAS, A vital member of the Science Research Program, Ruby Monichan
has participated in many competitions, including the International
Sustainable World Engineering Energy and Environment Project; she also
finds time in her busy schedule to volunteer at Ronald McDonald House,
the Franklin Hospital and the Elmont Public Library; and
WHEREAS, A young woman of singular distinction and superlative abili-
ties, Ruby Monichan has established a high standard of academic excel-
lence and purposefulness of life rarely achieved in youthful years; and
WHEREAS, As Ruby Monichan takes her leave of Elmont Memorial High
School, she bequeaths a legacy of academic achievement, school involve-
ment and community service to which others may aspire; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, Ruby
Monichan now stands honorably, with just pride in her accomplishments
and in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appre-
ciating the caring counsel and support provided by her teachers, coaches
and parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Ruby Monichan upon the occasion of being named a Commended Student
in the National Merit Scholarship Program, and extend to her its best
wishes for a future of purposeful success and well-being, fully confi-
dent of her response to a promising future and appreciative of the model
she represents for all aspiring young people of the Empire State; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ruby Monichan.
